Forums - Sony - PS3 finally hits 4 million units SOLD TO CUSTOMERS

ioi and DK you are very patient men lol. I got tired of explaining after 6 or 7 times, but you guys can keep going.

On topic: congratulations to Sony! It's nice to see them hit another major landmark.

I have no idea where I saw this, but didn't you once say that it is illegal for Sony(or any other company like them) to report sold to consumers since there is no realistic way to obtain exact numbers?

Maybe I was just seeing things, but do you remember saying/typing that?

If you did, do you have anything like a link to this law?

Again I might have just been seeing things, but it could help to clear this up.

If you haven't already seen it, go to this thread for all your asnwers.

BELIEVE IN THE NUMBERS

No, the ban threat is for his CONSTANT accusations of the data on this site being wrong, which is a little trying to say the least. All these issues have been explained numerous times - do a forum search

Well, he's questioning the numbers on this site which he has EVERY right to do. No sources are given for where the numbers are generated from and there's always a disparity between VGChartz numbers and NPD's. Plus there's also the little problem that I've brought to attention of the missing sales number for games, i.e. Euro numbers for Oblivion PS3 and Killzone 2 numbers (The developers said they sold 2 mil world wide, however on this site it's not even a million seller. There are countless more examples across all platforms. Plus the double posting of some games make this site seem less credible in the wandere's eyes.

VGChartz is like wikipedia in a sense that it's good to do your research here and to see all the data, but IMHO you cannot use it as a source since it is using outside sources that might or might not be right and is therefore not credible enough.

@Brazilian,

The only problem is that, if you are going to be questioning the numbers every week/month, why even be a part of this site?

For the same reason I'm part of wikipedia, browsing around and talking to others about stuff I like. The numbers here might be wrong, they might be right, I don't know, but it's undeniable that you cannot use this site, or wiki for that matter, as a credible source.

^However, do you constantly complain to Wikipedia about their accuracy?

I understand if you take the numbers with a grain of salt, but constant bickering about them is ridiculous.

First off, I never complained about any numbers here, I've asked before about some games missing some sales data and that's about it. But yeah, that's the whole basis of wikipedia, to edit the articles and have discussions until some type of accuracy can be reached. People have the right to complain and question things until you give them undeniable evidence to the contrary. You don't see wiki people questioning fighter past records and accomplishments or if F = m*a.

I understand why you'd be upset though, but that's the way it is though but people are going to question and complain you can give them undeniable evidence.

^ I was merely drawing a parallel. As in, you are probably not complaining about Wikipedia accuracy when you are using it. You take it with a grain of salt.

This is a different situation, because HE would rather complain about the accuracy whenever possible, than take it as an estimate.

Financial reports by law must be accurate sales figures.  I'm guessing that's what you are refering to.  I think you misunderstood me.  You can not lie on a financial report.  These are legal documents that are filed with the IRS, and they must be completely accurate statistical data involving the finances of the company.  Sony can not legally file a report for sold to consumers, because that is not Sony's finances.  They don't sell to consumers, and they have no data on what is sold to consumers.

So, for example, say I sell rocks to walmart, who sells them to consumers.  I can't file a financial report for how many rocks walmart sold, because after I sold them to walmart, they became walmart's product, no longer mine.   It's the same thing with Sony.  Sony ships electronics to warehouses (this used to be what they filed on their report), and then they sell the product to retailers.  These are the only 2 units of meassure availbale to them to file in their reports.  Those are the only 2 numbers related to their products.  They can not say how much as been sold to consumers on a financial report, because they DO NOT SELL TO CONSUMERS.  They can use things like NPD to say "look, worldwide we have sold about this much," but there is a large difference between a press release on statistical sales estimates (such as those given my NPD and VGC) and financial earnings reports.  Does that explain it?
