Forums - Sony - PS3 finally hits 4 million units SOLD TO CUSTOMERS

About 60k under what the Xbox 360 was doing at this point. I guess they are following almost identical sales patterns as of yet.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

3.4 attach rate not bad for a $600 console not good for a console but not bad for the price and the games that are on it.

Meh, I want something higher. 4.5 would be good. Anything under for just seems low... right now the PS3(3.4) and Wii(3.6) just seem a little on the low side.

oh wow 4million yawn im quite happy with the fact that the wii is like almost 10 million which in theory 2 times faster than the 360

ps3 outsells x360 twice this week!
though, it still cost 500$ in usa/japan and 600 euro in europe..
just amazing! PS3 FTW! =)

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Say can I ask what an attach rate is? I've been assuming it's average number of games owned per console. Am I right or wrong in this?

Chill out man, no need to dog the PS3 just because the Wii is selling faster then just about any console ever.  Sure it needed to pick up sales to avoid a gamecube like fate but it's slowly and steadly doing it.

People keep talking about PS3 selling well for $500/$600. However, the increase in PS3 sales saw only a small increase in software sales. Meaning? People are buying the PS3 as a BR player.

Not everyone buying a PS3 buys it for games, nor the prospect of buying games in the future.

IF the PS3 didn't double as a BR player, THEN I would acknowledge it selling well at such a high price.

I dont know why you keep insisting on this .

Sony told very clearly that is was speaking about sold to CUSTOMERS ,not to retail .

Do you really think there are only 270K consoles in the shelves out there ?

Sony said 4.28 sold to customers ,we can agree or think they were lying or think otherwise but insisting in this issue with things as the Gif some are using or this "When Sony says customers ir refers its customers i.e. the shops " is insulting our intelligence .Sony said customers refering to final customers .Period .They stated clearly with the european data how many consoles they had shipped and how many of those were effectively sold .Period .

Stop with this nonsense .Sony says 4.28 sold to customers and this site says 4.01 ...its obvious a small discordance but we dont have to make up absurd theories(that imply theres only 270K PS3 in shelves worldwide ) to make everything fit .

As for the data of passing 4 million is a good news ,its something faster than the 360 last year and with a lot of competency ,not many exclusive games and a 600 dollar burden that has been making things very very difficult .....but it still isnt good enough to be happy .Maybe now with the jap sales improving and the Starter pack and the price drop in USA things will go faster for the 5 million .

Yeah you're right. There probably weren't 270k consoles sitting on store shelves. There were probably more like 500k in stores. Now that the stores have sold almost half of them, they have 270k to go before they reach Sony's sold-to-stores number.

Looks like the $500 price tag might not be around much longer. Sony said they sold 4.28m to retail by the end of June. This means that there are now less thna 300k 60GB units in stores world wide. Assuming they stopped selling them to retail in the US they will be running out soon. I am guessing they will be gone by the end of the month.

I'm august 12th for Wii passing 360 as well.

BUT this price drop that is coming next week might be a thorn in that because if it's August 8th then there are 4 days for it to sell at that price which might just put it ahead, so August 19ths might just be it.
