Forums - General Discussion - Pure film greatness, Jumanji and Jurassic Park

This is a thread for the discussion of how great these two films in particular are, and any other films that you feel need adding to the list.

And I don't mean great like some other films are great, but there is something about these two and perhaps Toy Story as well that I can't explain.... it's like, they are blockbuster type films meant to please the masses, but they also go beyond that so that.

So The Matrix could have been another example, except it's a bit too nerdy/geeky, whatever the term for tech-head is nowadays.

I think I am rambling.

enjoy

(I expect this thread to have a maximum of 2 replies by the time I next check VGC in the morning, so please no more posts after the first 2)

Jumanji is a terrible movie.

Jurassic Park is amazing. Its special effects have aged so well that its pretty incredible.

The Matrix is a phenomenal film is well. There is no shame in liking The Matrix. It is all around a quality film.

Check out Dark City if you liked The Matrix and are into artsier films.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Jumangi was a great movie! I loved it.

Never did see Jurassic Park. I rented it and the disk was scratched. I'll have to just buy it i guess. It'll prob be like $10

jumanji is just awful.

My definition of fanboy: An idiot that misses 2/3 of the fun.

Jumanji haters are.....
Well, I don't have a word to describe them. Jumanji was awesome!

Zathura was so much better than Jumanji.

Jurassic Park is a classic though, but I did feel like punching Spielberg in the mouth after I got around to reading the book.

I <3 Hook! That was such an oddball, like a sequel to Peter Pan, which made it awesome!

Can't say I'm a big Jumanji fan. But Jurassic Park is such a timeless film. It just fires on all levels and the effects haven't aged a day. I'd say my only complaint was the lame "the girl is a hacker" part. That was unnecessary and silly. But in every other way. Fantastic.

Funny you should say that Onyxmeth. I just read the book a month ago and while I thought it had a terrific and engaging first half, I thought the second half just trailed off in to contrived dinosaur action sequences. Oh my god its the T-Rex again! but they managed to get away until oh no it's the T-Rex again!

I appreciate the film more now since it managed to prevent the story from trailing off and losing it's magic like the book did.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but at one point I had every line in Jumanji memorized. I watched that movie literally 50 times.

I always liked Jurassic Park.........dinosaurs have always done it for me.

I've never seen Matrix.
