Forums - Microsoft - Price cut to be announced August 8th

Any price drop is better than no price drop.

PS3's temporary Price Cut for the 60GB model was only a 16.6% price cut. Xbox 360 Elite's will be roughly around 12.5%. So nobody is making big waves yet.

Things that have changed since the last Generation of Gaming:

- Nintendo has shown us you can have the best selling console of all time with virtually no games for it.

- Graphics suddenly matter to Sony fans but Reverse Compatibility and Dual shock oddly enough don’t.

- Kiddy Crap is trendy with Hardcore gamers now that it’s no longer Nintendo’s “thing” (Viva Piñata, Little Big Planet, Banjo Kazooie 3, LBP)

- Third Party Developers are now essentially the equivalent of Video Game street pimps.

- Gimmicks are no longer fads (Wii-mote)... Well, not all Gimmicks (PS-Eye)

Well looking forward to Xmas parents are going to have the choice (as of now) between $250 Wii & Game (Incredibly appealing obviously), $350 & likely a pack in game from most retailers for Xmas, and $600 PS3.

THATS ASSUMING THE 60GB MODEL SELLS OUT. There could very well be price cuts by MS, Sony, Nintendo this is all based on speculation.

I think Nintendo will hold firm at $250 and eat MS/Sony Alive, 360 will do really well with Teens, and PS3 will sell good as well because it'll be a gangbusters holiday for the entire industry.

At this point MS has no reason to drop Premium much lower then $349, the only way they can compete with the Wii is at the $249 price point (with core, bundle game, and memory unit). I imagine they'd keep the Premium at $349 with a bungle game this holiday.

Like,
Core $249 & Game & Memory Unit
Premium $349 & Halo 3

No idea where Elite fits into this.

The price drop is good, though it could be better. I could surely see it boosting 360 sales-not as much as PS3, because it is not a BR player- especially since it is right before a big line-up of Madden, Bioshock, Mass Effect, heading towards Halo 3, and finishing up with GTAIV.

Then, right before/early November, they could drop the price across all models again. They would surely boost holiday sales.

Is the rumor of the new Falcon codenamed 360's going to have an HDMI port? Or will that stay as an exclusive to the Elite?

good question, I have no idea... butstill wonder if HDMI change a lot compare to the other type of connections.... does anyone has valid facts on that ?? I'm personaly using either the vga or the YuV (or something like that) plus the optical cord for the sound....

A 13% price drop after two years is still crap though. PS2 price dropped 33% after two years, Xbox dropped the same after less than a year, GC dropped 25% after a year, and now the PS3 dropped 17% after less than a year. It'll have about the same effect as the PSP's price drop did this spring.

A very steady and long lasting increase without signs of slowing???

Quite true. I'm not sure why people keep saying the PSP price drop didn't have a long lasting effect; it has, and it still continues.

Apparently Gamestop employees received information about an Xbox 360 announcement for August 8th (complete with marketing materials). It's safe to say that it's the price cut :) Hopefully this price cut and Bioshock being released this month will allow the 360 to get some sales in before Playstation 3 domination begins in September with Lair

PS3 been domintaing the 360 since July, out selling it in just about every market.

"(And likely a $100 price cut in Canada...)"

doubt it since the dollars are damn near even.

This is a bad move for MS IMO they should've waited till mid september right before Halo and dropped it 100 bucks.

HDMI actually has no real technical advantage over component, you get the same quality picture. The cool thing about HDMI is it carries both audio and video in the same connection. The studios chose HDMI for HDDVD and BlueRay because of it's copyright protection.

I recommend everyone use VGA if your tv supports it. It's the best connection you can use.
