less than 5 discs and the game and the game will suck.

I don't know what these people talking about disc-swapping every 5-15 minutes are talking about...they must be smoking crack or something.

I've played and beaten FF 7, 8, and 9, and I never once had to swap backwards on any of the games, for any reason(other than restarting the game from scratch). I've also not had to swap backwards on Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, or Last Remnant(nor did I have to swap backwards when playing Diablo II)

I highly doubt I'll have to swap discs backward when I backtrack in FFXIII either.

i played legend of the dragoon ( discs) and tokimeki memorial 2 (5discs) back in the day and that was swaping paradise.and i love those games.

Well it is uo to you if u prefer installation for 20 minutes and the lost of 5GB HDD-space or switching discs 3 times for 45seconds, without losing space on the HDD.

That is odd, BluRay offers so much space, but developers are just not able to use this as advantage. So the PS3 won't have an advantage due to BluRay. Like in every other multi-plat game before. Blue Dragon comes on 6discs i guess, Infinite Undiscovery on two, Lost Odyssey on four.

the greatest game ever, shenmue I/II, came on 7 discs and it did not affect gameplay in any way.

MSG4 installs were less than 3 mins, and only after an act that took always around 5 hours. the good thing but it was a 33GB game.

but installing 5 - 6 8gb DVDS into the disc would take most ot have similar loading time cut.

Oh i did a mock up of this just for kicks sometime ago on pshop.. The thing is that FFXIII looks like it will have a lot of hi res CG FMV and thats whats gonna take up a lotta space.  Last Remnant all the cut scenes are ingame

I think I said this the first time you posted it, but if the 360 version has discs that look as sexy as that, I'd rather the 360 version.

3 discs? Try 7 or 8. MGS4 used 50GB, and 75GB to 100GB discs are just around the corner. Eventually, BluRay disks will reach 150Gb to 200GB.

For other genres, especially shooters, which are linear experiences featuring the same dusky, dreary slab of battlefield red-brown-greys, the extra space doesn't matter. But for RPGs, which require huge, immersive and expansive game-worlds which the player has the freedom to explore as they wish, the lack of storage is a deal-killer. Reason: every new location requires you to backtrack to a particular disc. Instead of changing the disc every ten hours, it will be more like every ten minutes, especially later in the game.

have you played ff7 or lost oddysey, i dont remember a time when i had to back track to disc 2 or disc 3 when i was on disc 4 LOLs, usually you just keep playing foward and theres really no use in going back to disc 1 or disc 2 when on disc 4, when a story starts out, all the missions and storyline will happen in disc 1, what ever you need to collect will be on that disc, items and other stuff will be passed to disc two, you will have same enviroments same places to explore but new storyline and objective will on disc 2.

This is sweet actually how suddenly a sony fan boy put his foot in his mouth and only everyone noticed..Back track to other disc...LOL that so funny...but the point is not the disc amount it think the real argument is how much will they sell on each system, my money is on the 360 version due to the shocking following FFXI has on Xbox live

I say 4 disks max.

I was expecting it to come out on multiple discs. Does it change the fact of me buying it? No, not in the slightest bit.

oh yeah...I'd definitely buy that over a single disc version any day.

As far as which system it sells more on...it depends on how well FFXIII sells outside of Japan.  Outside Japan it will sell more on the X360, but since it is PS3 exclusive in Japan....that leaves things up in the air as to the global market.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that on the fourth disc (and possibly third? can't remember) of FF8 there are many areas in the gameworld you cannot access because of disc limitations.

So backtracking is in fact a real issue that should be taken into consideration.

The pictures of the discs look cool. Star Ocean 4 with 3 discs, Lost Odyssey with 4 discs, Blue Dragon with 3 discs.
