There really haven't been many movies in the last few years I've *had* to see so waiting a few months isn't a big deal.

For me I am a bit of a collector of sorts. I simply like owning them.
I categorize them in preferance order (like favorite to least favorite) so when people come to my house they can tell exactly how much I like said movie.

Most movies I don't like so buying every movie I like isn't too hard or costly.

There are still a couple titles that are killing me that I haven't bought yet. 12 Angry Men and Bank Job Special Edition. We will get Wall-E and Dark Knight for Christmas (wife and I). I need to get Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi as well. oh, and Manic

It's great for when we have company, instead of just wasting my time explaining hou great a movie is for them to just forget about it and never see it, I can just pop it in to my 360 and they can just watch it!

For movies I don't like or even some I do - It's cheaper to buy a DVD than to go with my Wife (and 1 or two nephews as can be the case) to the movies, and when watching in the comfort of my home I can always pause it to go use the bathroom, or if something important happens and we need to leave.

As stated earlier, sometimes you want to see it more than once. Rubang = excellent point, what about movies that are to old to see in theaters. The Manchurian candidate and 12 Angry Men are two of the greatest movies of all time. Theaters don't replay old movies much, if at all anymore, due to the way they are run, so home media is a big....uh.. thing, or deal. yeah

my wife had never seen Constantine, it was on my get list, bought it for 9 bucks. Had to stop it half wayt through and come back to it 2 days later. Best possible deal. Also deleted scenes we were able to watch, and we both want to watch it again for the Audio commentary WHICH I LOVE!

next up: Cloverfield. I can't wait to see the Alternate ending! Easter eggs have definatly increased the value of DVD ownership.

and also, I have this thing where I feel when I buy stuff I am supporting that product/company and possible future products to be of that quality/style.
same as people here buy games and root for them, and their platforms.

I think that should just about answer your questions but yeah. (potentially)Unlimited views for the cost of a little less than 2 movie tickets, good deal.

Oh yeah and even though I took the disc out of the player (to play Blue Dragon) 2 days later when I popped the disc back in the 360 loaded it it right to the exact stop!

My DVD player can do this, but I think I have to prompt it (can't remember) and If you turn it off that memory is gone, so I was suprised and pleased with my 360 for that :^%)

A movie ticket is $10, generally a dvd is 5-13 and a bluray is 15-35. If you have 2 people watching a movie, a DVD is cheaper.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I like going to the theater, but owning them at home is more valuable. I can watch it when I want and can watch it with whoever I want at no cost.

You can pirate DVD's really easily too, which essentially makes them free if you borrow it from someone else or just the cost of renting the DVD.

Blu-Rays are still a little bit more cost prohibitive (and size prohibitive) to copy. You almost need an external drive devoted to pirating a Blu-Ray unless you have a monolith of a HDD. Not to mention blank Blu-Rays still run at least $5 a pop (usually closer to $10). But it will be feasible soon, and expect me to be there!

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Wow, look at this! Over $700 for 50 blank Blu-Rays!

Sounds like it'd be worth it to import from japan....

Can't you get them there for cheap?

In 2006 it was like... $24 a disc.  Now i wanna say it's less then 5.

You can get a 15-pack for around $85, which isn't that bad. That's only about $5-6 a disc. But that is still too high for me to jump on board and buy a Blu-Ray burner.

Last time I went to the theater I saw 4 movies to get my money's worth. Now sadly the 3 movies I want to see (JCVD, Quantum of Solace, and Religulous) are all playing at different theaters, so I can't pull that off again. I'm gonna have to wait to rent them, because I'm so damn broke.

EDIT: And my last 2 girlfriends worked at movie theaters (one worked at 2 at once even), so I used to just see every movie ever for free.  Those days are over, so I almost always stay home.  Now that I'm majoring in film though, I have to watch 4 feature-length movies a week in class anyway, and several shorts.
