Forums - Microsoft - Hard drive install - disk read errors

So as a public service message -

My Halo 3 disc would NOT load one of the campaign chapters.  I made it through when it came out, but when I went back a while later, there must've been a scratch or something.  New life for some of those games that get disk read errors a lot!

But when I installed it, I could access the areas I couldn't have before.  It was quite nice.  Now I can go back and get the last couple skulls and get the rest of the campaign achievements.

Anyone know if the install works with Backwards compat. games?  I have a Jade Empire save right near the end of the game, and I always wanted to see how it ended, but the disk is scratched.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

halo 3 doesn't work very well when installed to the hdd. it's the one game that suffers from an install. so best thing to do is not install halo.

he just said his disk was unplayable due to scratches...so i dont know how you could try and argue to him against it.

Don't install Halo.

Bungie had it already use the HDD to cache data to it. Installing it takes longer since it reads the data from the HDD then writes the data to the HDD since uninstalled, it reads the DVD data then writes it to the HDD. The HDD can't read and write data at the same time.

The initial load to get the campaign started was pretty long, but after that it worked brilliantly.  I played multiplayer off the disk, which is the primary problem area for Halo and installs.

Like MrBubbles said, I did it because it was the only way I could play the Ark and the Covenant chapters.
