There’s been much speculation over movies by Sony Pictures losing the ability to stream via Netflix over Xbox 360.

Netflix revealed to MTV Multiplayer the issue was licensing-related and hoped the restriction was temporary.

We’ve now heard from Sony Pictures themselves, who have tried to squash rumors this was a secret power play.

“This issue is not specific to Xbox or any other individual platform,” said a Sony Pictures spokesperson in an e-mailed statement. “Sony Pictures is currently in discussions with the relevant parties to resolve certain licensing matters related to the distribution of its motion pictures. Given the ongoing nature of these discussions, we don’t think it is appropriate to comment further at this time.”

Sony Pictures’ statement suggests this remains a licensing issue, and it’s likely streaming will return to Xbox 360 sometime in the future.

Let’s just hope it’s sooner, rather than later. I want to finish “An Evening With Kevin Smith 2.”

Hmm...all the movie work fine with Roku though. So I don't understand why streaming to 360 would be any difference.

Sony got beat on something, and they are lashing back? That's my guess. I don't know though, because if I were Sony, I'd probably have done the same thing.

I thought it were only Colombia pictures that didn't worked on Xbox 360 netflix.

Yes, Columbia is owned by Sony... It started off as Columbia-Tri Star Pictures, and then Sony Pictures pulled them into the fold in a buyout.

I wonder is Sony is having problems with the concept of streaming since it hurts BluRay.
