Coming from Leicester in the UK I'm unlikely ever to see somewhere I know well end up in a video game. Being a recluse I'm unlikely to visit a location of a video game either.
But Fallout 3's "world" interests me greatly. It's a bit different to recreations we've previously had. Like GTA's semi-recreations that just kinda have the flavour of the locations it's replicating, or The Getaway with it's faithful recreation of London (apologies for my lack of knowledge of other game worlds). In Fallout they've taken the location but mashed it up.
For me, the game could be taking place anywhere. Sure, there's landmarks that I recognise the name of but only a few I've seen (in pictures or on tv).
So I'm wondering what it's like for people who've been to Washington or, even better, people who live there? It must add something to the game if say you walk down those same streets every day. Is there a real sense of recognising the locations in the game?
If I wasn't enjoying the game so much I might actually get off my ass and see the real place for myself. Although I'd probably be disappointed by the lack of super mutants around.
