Forums - General Discussion - The Animation Thread

A thread dedicated to animation! Of all types. Share your favorite animated movies/series here. Especially obscure but incredibly good ones that I don't know of so I can check them out :)

I'll start with some favorites of mine:

The Plague Dogs

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084509/

Danger Mouse

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081848/

Aeon Flux

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111873/

MTV used to have some really kickass animation, does anyone remember Cartoon Sushi? I've been youtubing a bunch of the cartoon sushi stuff lately.

I also just recently picked up this movie called Dante's Inferno, I'm not sure if it really counts as animation but its drawn puppets and its pretty cool:

One of my favorite animated series from childhood is Ren and Stimpy:

Here is a good animated clip from Youtube that is completely unrelated. It is probably one of the strangest but funniest things I have ever watched.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I love animation! Here is the best animated series of all time:

Akuma- Oh how I love Don Hertzfeldt. Theres this 2 DVD set of MTV's "the animation show" that has a lot of Don Hertzfeldt stuff in it. Especially this awesome one with killer balloons.

I'll have to check that out.  I have never seen any of his other stuff.

Another pure classic is South Park.  Best animated show since The Simpsons, IMO.

adult swim used to have a wide array of great anime. Now all they have is crap because it's cheap and gets just as much ratings.

Animation always makes me think of this

Does anyone here know of Makoto Shinkai? Apparently that dude just makes movies on his Laptop, and they usually look pretty amazing. Is 2-d animation cheaper, or more expensive than 3-d?(the quality can be assumed good)
