Hey guys! I've just finished Call of Duty: World at War on PC (I'm definitely buying this today, and yeah, you know what that means...), and all I want to say is that this game delivers! Call of Duty: World at War is the best Call of Duty out there, period (it is also Treyarch's best game if you ask me).
The single player is really something, and it feels more satisfying compared to CoD 4's. The story is pretty basic for a WWII game, but it's the action that feels really different this time around compared to all previous Call of Duty games. You'll be impressed by what they've done with the various time-events! There are not as many missions to choose from compared to Call of Duty 4, but their length are definitely longer. Everything is new too, you won't see something from CoD 4 here, so you can't say that all Treyarch can do is copy Infinity Ward's work! What I really like about this game compared to the others is the setting. Thanks to the CoD 4 engine, everything looks so damn fine, but the scale is just huge now! It definitely feels like a war zone this time around (fog, smoke, fire, explosions everywhere, etc.). I don't want to say I prefer ''dark'' games, but the extra violence in the game makes everything look more real. I might even add that watching a leg flying is quite satisfying...! War is really ugly, and it shows. I've never really hated the WWII setting, but good job Treyarch on making me love it even more (can you believe it?)!
Oh, grenades and the stupid A.I. are still a bitch like in previous other CoD games! Though, there's probably one thing I hate in the single player. Since the action is just so intense, you'll sometimes die from an explosion coming out of nowhere (it happened twice in the entire single player, so it's not that bad). Also, the music score is well done and fits the mood, but like in previous games, none of them will stick in your head for a while. Sounds are well done, especially when you're near an explosion, but it can't be compared with Battlefield: Bad Company's.
About multiplayer, well, I've already said in my other thread that I already prefer the way everything plays in this game compared to CoD 4. I've been in the two betas (X360 and PC), and I prefer everything about this game. From the maps I've played, they seemed to have made them do something different all the time. One encourages you to use long-range weapons like the sniper, another one motivates you to battle in close-quarters (intense action if you ask me, my favorite!) and the last one encourages you to stay with your team (if you play Team Deathmatch) all the time because it feels like there are two bases in the map. I've checked a few new maps, and the same idea seems to come out of them. I can't wait to try them out for realz! I think the rest is just all improvements from CoD 4: new perks, vehicles, etc. So, it really comes down on what you prefer: old weapons Vs. new weapons, dynamic maps Vs. camper-heavy maps (and yeah, I'm serious about this).
I can't wait to see if Infinity Ward will make a better game next (Call of Duty: Space Warfare? I can only wish!), and competition never hurts (because it really feels like it now)! ;)
Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
