for all the doubters on Sony's 10yr Plan!

What in holy hell makes you think that they will not reach this goal? Think about what they have done with the PS3 in the first place. They made it as future proof as they possibly could. The PS3 boasts BluRay, Cell Technology, etc. Pretty advanced shit by any means. The 360 and Wii do not come close to matching it in hardware.

Sony has implemented these things so when the standard of what people are expecting in games rises again their system will be well prepared, at least on a PS2-XBOX level.

There is also simply too much riding on the success of the PS3 for Sony to break their own plan. Think about it. When formulating the inclusiongs of your next console you upgrade not downgrade! What could the PS4 possibly have over the PS3? Will it not contain bluray as the PS3 did? That would be silly as the PS3 is the savior of bluray. Sony will implement BR into everything possible. Will it use cell tech? Most likely, another home grown production of Sony and they have alot riding on it as well. Will it have the already existing userbase?NO, PS3 will have accumilated a hefty one by then though, while if they start over with the PS4 they will have to gain them all over again. Will it have better graphics card, ram? yea, but is it really need?

So far the PS4 would have to have bluray(faster drive), cell(better in some way), better graphics card, better ram, with no userbase. If the PS3 costs about 500 now with all these features that means that the PS4 will be somewhere around the same price. So you people are expecting a PS4 at $600 price tag to do better then the PS3 who is ALREADY ahead of it's time at about $400. All that would do is completely recreate all the big issues Sony had with the PS3 ALL OVER again. Why, when it would be much smarter is to stick with PS3 and work on those issues and fullfill the 10yr life cycle as planned so all of the big issues(price mostly) can be eradicated.

How many electronics have been on top for 10 years?

PS3 could be improved in many ways...

First, why are installs mandatory in certain cases?

Second, blu-ray can be faster on reading and data transfer.

Third, the 20, 40, and 60 Gb versions are considered small storage because of blu-ray.

Fourth, there are very few games supporting 1080p at a good framerate on PS3.

I think you are drinking a little too much Sony kool-aid.  PS3 is good, don't get me wrong, but it is just barely beating 360 from a technical stand point right now.  If both Microsoft and Nintendo release a new console in 2010-11 that address these areas then Sony will be in for a fight, even if they are cheaper.

We know the PS3 is doing good, but i feel that Sony will launch PS4 with Blue Ray a cheaper more powerful processor and better graphics card within 2-3 years and then really show Next Gen CGI Graphics and get a headstart on the next gen while 360 waits and milks its console.

Baaaaahahahhaa

Sorry, I'm done.

Baaahahhahahaa.

Ok, really done.

Good joke, or was that serious? If Sony rushes to release another console and take another massive set of losses, their video games division will tank. It is Sony that plans to milk this generation. Microsoft's concern with the X-box is ruling your living room - making a profit is secondary. Sony needs the money.

"It's nowhere near even halfway through its lifecycle, and I could argue that some other competing formats are on their way down right now," he added.

He is talking about PS2 and GBA, folks.

That wont be the end of Sony gaming  console,if they release a more powerful console but make it cheaper they can sell it and make a profit.

He's clearly talking about the 360 being on it's way out when he says that... Ne apparently thinks that Just because Xbox died early... the 360 will do the same. He doesn't know Nintendo though. They'll keep the Wii out as long as it sells which at this point I can honestly say I don't think the PS3 is the only one that's going to have a 10 year life cycle. (actually around here the N64 was out on shelves for 8 years. and the Gamecube is still on the shelves.) I just don't see anyone being out of Heavy Hitting Software yet. So that idea might as well be discounted. (If the PS3 has a bigger list of Heavy Hitters than so be it... but to say everybody else is dead in that department is just way out of line.)

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

It could be made from Titanium and feel human emotion it doesn't matter how "future proof" sony made it. When all is said and done the market decides how long it sells for. If the market stops buying it in year 7, then what? The retailors will not want to buy them and thats the 10 year plan kapput!!

Quoted for truth

In 8 years, cheap computers will be much more powerful than the PS3.

Dude dont tell me you actually believe in 10 year plan?! Cause it wont be Sony that is deciding about its life at the end of the day, cause Microsoft will bring Bigger and better hardware, that will be easier to programme on then  Outdated TEH Cell.

Everyone seem to think that the 10 year plan is something other than what it is. You guys seem to assume a 10 year plan means 10 years as it being the dominant/main playstation console. It just simply means that they're not giving up on older consoles completely until the average playstation fan can actually upgrade. It's as simple as that. So therefore there probably won't be many games made for the PS3, I don't think they're going to completely give up on it either. 10 years isn't that long of a time.

They support PS2 because of its  remarkable success and the same story was with the PS1, due to the popularity of those systems Sony was able to get 3rd party support still going on those platforms (with PS2 hurting the Wii support). Now the Story is different Sony is in 3rd place and it wont support a failure for 10 years,  they will move on like everyone else before. That's why Ninty's stopped supporting N64 and GC, MS xbox or Sega it's consoles in the past.
