I see it likely that there will be multiple assassination attempts, I think its unlikely any will succeed though.

I think he has the highest security any man in the world has ever had, it would probably take somebody smarter than an ignorant hick white supremest to kill him.

'Round here in Massachusetts the past 8 years I've been hearing idiots say that Bush would get assassinated because "everybody" hates him.....there are idiots in every state and every country.

Yeah I think it was more likely for somebody to make an attempt on Bush than anybody else. In fact, he's the first and only U.S. president to win the electoral vote and not the popular vote without getting shot afterwards.

Obama will be fine. Besides, after Bush's horrible job, Obama only has to be mediocre to be our greatest president ever by comparison.

Rutherford Hayes was not shot at, and I do not believe Benjamin Harrison was shot at. 

Being someone that lives in the South, and the real south not no wannabe southern state like Florida, there is a lot of people saying and thinking this. But let me clear the air. A bunch of rednecks in hoods or with hunting rifles can't assassinate a president. And tha'ts all they really are, akin to the KKK, rednecks in white hoods. Yes I like how the movie American History X put it because it's absolutely correct.

And I don't think these people down here are stupid enough to not know this which is why most are threatening to leave the country. They won't because eventually they won't care but that's what they are saying now.

Let's face it people only care about politics when they think what they say matters. And after that it's a fad that dies away until 4 more years. Nobody down here will care about Obama in 5-6 months. Hell probably sooner than that and only have it revitalized thx to the inauguration. And it's that kind of detachment from politics as to why our system becomes more totalitarian simply because people don't care. And I guess who can blame them. They got all these more important things to care about.

If Obama is assassinated the riot that will happen afterward will be insane.

I think thats something alot of you skipped. (I read maybe 1/2 posts) The amount of anger that will build up in all the people of will be tremendous. It wont fix anything just like any riot but it'll happen. Afterward America will be left saying WTF????

How well does the secret service really protect the president? For example, imagine the president is going to make a speech outdoors. Does the secret service check and protect every single window and roof from which a shot can be taken at the pulpit?

No doubt that security is taken into account when selecting locations for a speech, but how far do they really go?

I'm guessing if an asssanitation atempt is assumed (in Obamas situation) rather than anticipated like previous presidents then there will likely be security measures put in place that you wouldn't usualy see for a president.

It makes sense anyway.
