Forums - General - Does Obama need extra security due to assassination plots?

Does anyone here think that Obama needs extra security around/with him?

Some kids in my class were talking about giving Obama 2 weeks before he's assassinated.

Is this true that he faces a greater risk of assassination than any other president because of his colour?

I was told he had to make a speech behind bulletproof glass.

Discuss?!

I would say yes since this country still has a fair amount of racism. I was reading that some National Guards were being preemptively beefed up and other security measures were taken in parts of the South even before the election to prepare for any potential problems in case Obama won. So far there haven't been any incidents.

But at my school here in Texas the President sent out an email condemning some students behavior who had strung up a noose on some tree on campus and had burned Obama/Biden signs.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I wouldn't expect that there is much more risk for Obama than any other president ...

An assassination of the President of the United States of America today is not an impossible task but it would require planning and organization above and beyond what the majority of people in the world are capable of. I could be wrong but I suspect that anyone who could successfully set up an assassination would also realize how pointless it would be, and how it does not provide much of a long term benefit.

Have you seen normal Presidential security? it's crazy strong.

No, he doesn't need anymore security. He already has Biden, how much more security does he need?
