Forums - General - Antigua might rename mountain after obama

ST JOHN'S, Antigua – Antigua's prime minister wants to rename the island's highest mountain peak "Mount Obama" in honor of the U.S. president-elect.

"Boggy Peak," as it is currently known, soars more than 1,300 feet (396 meters) over the island's southern point and serves as a transmission site for broadcast and telecommunication providers. It also is a popular hiking spot.

Political analyst Avel Grant says the name change could draw more tourists to the island.

Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer announced the plans Wednesday in a congratulatory letter to President-elect Obama.

Attorney General Justin Simon said Thursday he will research if parliament needs to approve the name change.

off topic but damn my little island looks so freakin small on that map

Well, Boggy Peak is a horrible name, so changing it can't be for the worse, that's for sure

regardless of whether or not its a poor name...renaming it after someone elses president is more than a little weird.

George Washington is in Paris:

in Budapest:

He has streets named after him in Belgrade, Rome, Hamburg, Paris, and Santo Domingo.

JFK has a memorial in Runnymede (England), Israel, a park in Galway City (Ireland)....

There are statues, streets, memorials, etc. of American Presidents around the world.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
