Forums - Microsoft - So i am on my 5th xbox........

LOL, OMG, that brings back nightmares.  I was one of the first in line to get the PS2 when it was released, and my DVD-Rom drive crapped out on me in the first year.  Sony tech support stinks, and did nothing to help me.  So instead of fixing it myself (or paying them to) I went and bought the original XBOX.  I never would have spent as much money with Microsoft on both XBOXes (and games) as I did if they would have helped me when my PS2 went to heck.  I've spent at least 5 grand on both consoles and games for them.  That money could have been spent with Sony had they taken the time to own up to their mistakes.

Don't get me wrong, I did buy the PS3 still (late adopter though), but I dread the thought if something goes wrong with it, because I doubt that they will help me.  Actually when the update right before 2.5 came out on the PS3 a few months back, my PS3 locked up and wouldn't install the update after trying for an hour...

I called tech support at Sony, and waited on hold, and got passed around for another hour before I finally gave up and just figured it out myself.

When my XBOX RROD'd, I literally told the MS rep that I knew it was the RROD problem, and that I just wanted to send in my console for repair... she said, "no problem".  Emailed me a link for the label about 30-min later, and a week after that got my new console.  That's great customer service if you ask me.

Which makes me remember, my second ps2 is still broken... I already had a 360 when the drive crapped itself so I didn't bother to get it repaired - but I'm still missing Zeus on god of war 2 and vayne in ff12.

meat to trolls...

I am on my 32nd 360.

On a more serious note, you shouldn't buy another 360 because of RRoD, they should be under warranty. As for disc drive errors, wouldn't it be cheaper to send it in for repair than to purchase another?

Wellll ... I'm one of those ANNOYING people that is still on his launch console.

But, check it, I WANT the RRoD! But, for the life of me, I CAN'T GET IT! The 3 year coverage for RRoD runs out on me come 12/22/08 and I would LIKE to get it BEFORE then. But I can't. Oh, and to make matters worst, my GPU has been going out on me and the only way I get it working again is the towel trick.

How's that for irony? I just can't win.

Yeah that doesn't make any sense.

Besides.  If your GPU is going out, DON'T do the towel wrap, or you'll just prolong its life.  If the GPU is going out, turn your XBOX on, turn the TV off, and walk away.  I bet you it RRODs on you in less than 12 hours.  That's what happened to mine.

Once the GPU started craping on me, it was because of a current shortage which was a result of the soldering issue... which always leads to the RROD.  So just turn it on, and leave it alone... it'll die by itself.

I'm on my 5th xbox, does that make me an ignorant sony fanboy?
Am I just making it up?

You say you eat through "faulty" logic, but your take on this is ignorant to say the least. There are sooooo many forums/posts of ppl going through multiple systems cause guess what?......it happens!! I had 3 disc drives burn out, one system that wouldnt read discs the day i got it back from microsoft, and (i swear im not making this one up) one system that RRoD overnight while it wasnt even on. Got up one morning and controller was unsynched and system RRoD on startup. Its awesome that RRoD hasnt happened to you, you really are lucky. BUt dont discredit other ppls testimonies just because you havent seen it happen.

Well, I have never questioned a poster with an objective history who has reported an instance of a RROD.

But it seems peculiar when a poster with an obvious bias reports multiple failures. It's just logic. I think any rational person would understand this.

I am sorry if this scares you, but your comment was appreciated.

Thanx.

Ummmm, scares me in what way exactly? Oh and btw its not logical or rational to believe that there is some big conspiracy that ppl make up RRoD situations just to badmouth microsoft.

And think about it, if the OP was trying to discredit the 360, why would he be so nice about it in his post?

There is nothing in his post that even suggests that he has an alternate agenda.

I think your higher education has made you a bit paranoid......

Right, because these kind of underhanded manipulative tactics never ever occur in the perfect world of big business, marketing or even government?

There is zero curruption. And of course big companies never pay people to portray themselves as seemingly everyday normal people over the internet to influence others in a way that benefits the company and discredits the competition?

Nope, never happens. I guess videogame software makers do not pay cash to publications to skew reviews either? Nope, everything is just perfect!

Big businesses and Lobbyist do not try to sway government officials! Because we live in perfect land!

You are right! I guess all of my classes on marketing and business ethics were completely useless! And it's made me a paranoid lunatic!!

Thank you for such an insightful and educated post. You are going places.

Hell if sony paid me i would do it!!!! but on VG chartz???? lol sony would have wasted money there are bigger sites to do it on lol. and i didnt trash M$ at all.... this RROD or disk drive crash is a fact and its out there.

Hey now, VGChartz is the most accurate sales numbers site on the internet, so it's a lot more important than you give it credit for.  I'll guarantee you execs do get reports with numbers from this site, because industry wide it's well known for accuracy.

With that being said, the RROD is a problem... but MS owned up to the problem and extended the warranty and provide a pain free way of getting your XBOX fixed.  And as much as I love my PS3, I dread the thought of it ever going down, because Sony's tech support stinks... my problems with the PS2 DVD-ROM showed me this, because they wouldn't do a thing for me.

And I'm not blasting the PS3, as I'm no 360 fanboy.  I actually love and hate things about both systems... I own and play and love both of them.

Yes, the XBOX RROD issue is a real pain, I've experienced it.  But I also experienced a faulty DVD drive in my PS2 years back.... and regardless of what anyone says, I can promise you that MS tech support is leagues ahead of Sony's.

Between me and my roommate we have gone through 13 xbox360 units since launch.  11 were victim of rrod, 2 cd tray scratches.  I must say I was irritated at the continued issue but NEVER was any additional cost ever incurred to myself.  I found the replacemet process smooth.  And at the interest of full disclosure 4-5 of these rrod's could have been caused by the users as it is often quite warm in our network closets depending on where we are working.

edit: wanted to add that msft did document the number of times this has happened to us and did in fact follow through with tokens/apologies in the form of "sampled" products.  (refurb zunes ftw)

Yeah, I've heard that before and tried weeks ago.  Left the system on for basically 3 days straight.  Never RRoD'd.  Its will to live is admirable, but the timing is WAY off for me.  I    need     it       to       DIE!
