I got it around the same time I got Fable 2. Maybe it wasn't that bad, but Fable was just so much better it overshadowed it, and the ending was pure, unadulterated crap in Fallout.

Don't listen to him, I got Fable II the week before I got FO3. 10 hours in I was done with Fable II and never wanted to re do it except to see what happens if I'm pure evil in the ending. I clocked FO3 at 33 hours and I predict that I had another 10 easily if I hadn't forgotten to save.

Too bad you missed what makes Fable 2 good.

I have posted my impressions in 3 topics or more already haha but OK

I'm at ~18 hours now, did about two steps of the main quest (which I probably won't finish anytime soon, but whenever I feel like I want something different I complete it a little more) and the best part is roaming around doing random stuff, because usually you will end up with a quest or using VATS.

the worst part is playing without VATS and the fact that I won't have any problem with ammo for the rest of the game, and I even left one raider base intact in case something wrong happens and I lose a lot of ammo. and melee combat is terrible.

Haha, that's what happens when they've been using the same engine for the past decade (or it seems like it)! xD

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

The ending in Fable 2 as pure unadulterated crap too.  And basically after you buy fairfax castle, there is nothing left to do.

Bethesda's Todd Howard "if install base really mattered, we'd all make board games, because there are a lot of tables."

if that's how Oblivion plays then I know to avoid it all costs haha is Morrowind the same? I know I should have played at least one Elder Scrolls, but I never played one. my god, I just use melee sometimes because the Ripper is cool, and now I have that Shishkebab thing (still have to test it)

Why the hell are you doing melee in fallout? Melee has always been crap in fallout.

My thoughts:

1) great atmosphere and setting, pretty good graphics on console (each has flaws and I think they balance out essentially even).

2) good quests that are interesting and many different types (rather than multiple versions of same fetch/kill/go quests)

3) pretty good main story but I've put that on hold until I finish all side quests as I gather when you finish the main story the game comes to a hard finish

4) VATS is great. FPS is okay and melee is meh (unless using VATS)

I have to admit, the second I get LBP (hopefully tomorrow, damn you amazon!) this will probably join a fair few other games in a holding pattern for a while.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Fallout 3 is a great Post Apocolyptia game that slaps on some simple Fallout coating, but doesn't isn't built using the same architecture(and I don't mean the transition to 3d). Over all the game is pretty awesome.

While I hear a tone of 3rd person sucking. it's not that bad and if it wasn't there would be one fo the factor making it unplayable to me. If it wasn't for VATS it would also be unplayable. I'm descent at FPS games, it's just that when playing a RPG I don't want to switch over to action during a fight.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
