Mine actually slowly died the same way....

Eventually it permanently died, and Microsoft didn't simply fix my 2 1/2 year old console, they actually replaced it with a brand new one that was manufactured just a few months ago...

Therefore, just play the heck out of it, and I promise you it will give a permanent RROD soon enough, and then MS will either fix it, or as in my case, give you a new one.  (The new one is as quiet as a mouse too, so the RROD thing actually was kind of a blessing for me!)

Yeah, I just got my replacement unit, and noticed that the drive was significantly quiter than my old one, and I actually thought my old one was not that loud.
