Forums - General Discussion - So there's fungus under my left thumbnail...

--warning, probably not the prettiest story--

So last Friday I noticed my was hurting like I smashed and then I noticed a small bump on the side of my thumb like something bit me.  I didn't think much of either-- I was moving stuff around the previous day and I've gotten bug bites before.

Fast forward to Monday and the pain stays about the same.   I look at my thumb and notice a small discoloration.  I've never really smashed my thumb before but I could have swore that's what happened as your thumb healed so I didn't think much of it.  It also started hurting a lot more and the area around it started becoming more tender.  Again, thought it was normal.

Tuesday comes and the area starts getting bigger and hurting more as the day goes on.  By the time I leave work around 6:30 I'm just in stupid amounts of pain.  I get home and tell the wife about it and she thinks it might be infected because now it was green/yellow and and had moved out onto my skin.  We looked some more and it turns out fungus also looks like that.

I decide in either case (infected or fungus) it's incredibly disgusting and I was going to go to the doctor and finally get to use my spiffy insurance I've been paying for for so long.

Tuesday night continues and the pain steadily gets works and at about 1AM I just couldn't take it anymore.  I went to Wal-Mart to look for some kind of cream.  I look around and only find athlete's foot cream and nothing for pain.  At that point I decide I'd just go to hospital because there was no way I was going to sleep.  I felt goofy going to the emergency room for thumb fungus but whatever.

I get to the hospital and luckily the emergency room was empty and get admitted.  The doctor comes in and immediately takes my thumb and starts pushing the skin around and pulling around the nail.  Don't think that could have hurt worse.

He decides to pump my thumb full of anesthesia so he can dig around in there and turns out there is fungus under the nail and it was pretty infected.  Woohoo.

I ask him how I could get fungus under my nail because it was in fact pretty disgusting and he had no answer unfortunately.

Anyways, they gave me a cream, antibiotics, and a spiffy pain killer that was supposed to make me drowsy so I could actually sleep.

I finally get home around 4AM and take the painkiller along with the story hoping to finally get some sleep so I could get so work done.  Long story short (too late?), didn't get an ounce of sleep last night because the pain killers never really kicked in.  Around 10AM I finally got an hour or two of sleep.

Now it's just back to hurting like a bitch and counting down the hours until I'm ready for bed and can hopefully take another one of the pain killers.

Also sucks because playing any game results in even more pain so can't play Fable II or Dead Space.

;_;

It hurts far worse than anything I've ever experienced (before that was wrist being broken) and hasn't stopped hurting yet.  -_-
