Forums - General Discussion - Oil falls under $69 a barrel!!! that's half of what it was

Then why the hell are gas prices still relatively high?

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. that's what I am asking!

It's still over $3 in so. cal.  why?

last time the oil was at $70 a barrel we were paying less than $2.50 a gallon.

its down to £1.02 per litre here in UK, down from £1.25 per litre, not happy until it reaches about 80p per litre lol

Petrol is 97p and diesel is ~£1-£1.10 at local garages here.

Gas prices are measured by what we are "used" to paying rather than what we actually should be paid.  We are used to paying higher prices, so the oil companies feel like we are still comfortable with artficially high prices as long as they are lower than they were before.

Or something...obviously oil companies benefit in no other way EXCEPT anticipating taxes than by price gouging people.  That is like saying I would prefer to get $20 for one of my old textbooks rather than $10 ONLY because I am worried about paying taxes.

Id like to see it down to about $2 a barrel. That's about what Id be content paying per gallon. Then drop a price cap on it, fixing it at $2/barrel for 10 years. Let the oil people take a profit hit, greedy bastids.

edit- lowest Ive seen is $2.60/gallon in NJ

Do you mean gallon or barrel?

2 dollars per barrel would be free gas.

I know you're old, so I just want to make sure you said what you meant.  ^_-
