Most hackers like to do stuff just to prove they can... they do it for the attention.

for the challenge, more than for the attention. But there is less motivation when there is less to gain. The holy grail is having unsigned code running directly on the hardware, and that's already possible with the PS3 and Linux (albeit, without access to the GPU)
