Forums - Sony - David Reeves: This Christmas Not That Critical

WiteoutKing said:
Christmas '07 is going to be Nintendo and Sony's second Christmas season and Microsoft's third. Christmas '08 is going to be about halfway through the general life expectancy of all three consoles.

Sony obviously has big plans for 2008 and that Christmas will likely be their big showing for the PS3 across its lifetime.

However, that said, this is almost definitely Sony covering their tracks by saying "It's okay, we weren't going to win it this year anyway." after all the bad press and third-party departures lately.

I think that is probably the most accurate way to say it.  MS is pushing this year, and banking on it.  Sony isn't pushing this year so much.  They will still sell tons of PS2 and PSPs, while next year they can get the PS3 into a realistic price range with a robust line up, that is their big year.  Nintendo is a really a whole different show, every years is profitable for them.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

And seriously MontanaHatchet, Dolla Dolla is hardly a fanboy, given his posting record...I don't know why you call "Nintendo fanboy" on him for posting a simple news article...it's not our fault if Sony says stuff like this...give me a news article where Microsoft or Nintendo say something and I'm sure it'll get discussed to death as well...what did you expect?

Really? Have you checked out his posts lately in all of the Sony threads?  It's been quite tiresome.

I'm sorry but at the current rate PS3 will barely hit 10 million sold by the time Christmas '08 begins. Meanwhile Nintendo will be approaching 30 million. I don't see Sony coming back from a lead like that.

Sony needs to pick up their game and they need to do it NOW.

Dude dont even type that. Sony will probally be going on 15 million. Maybe even more. Not just because im a Sony fan but...

1. Christmas this year and all the big games.

2. MGS4 early next year (Worldwide)

3. Killzone early next year

4. FFXIII early next year (Japan maybe US late next year)

5. Many other big titles coming next.

Your post holds no evidence that Nintendo will be going on 30 million by then. Your pretty much basing it off of that it stays sold out til then. Which isnt very likely.

Included in #5 is probably GT5, which looks to be challenging for best looking videogame ever.

I don't think this Christmas is necessarily the most critical one - I think that's going to be Christmas 08.

He never said 07 is not important.
He did not say he does not care about it,
he simply gave his opinion that 08 is the MOST CRUCIAL ONE.

READ what he said before you cry about it.

Way to throw a tantrum over NOTHING.

The only people arguably "crying" or "throwing tantrums" are those fighting the posting of this article to begin with. It's a simple article that speaks for itself and its no real surprise that certain members come running immediately to Sony's defense in response to its posting. Either way your response is in itself a bit "much", unless you wish to be one of those accused of "crying" or "throwing tantrums" in this thread you should be less agressive and more constructive. While there is a great deal of validity to your interpretation of the announcement to just simply dismiss any differing views comes across as petty, rude, and yes, "fanboy-ish". Please don't be an element that turns this into a flame thread.

Or they are annoyed with half the threads being nothing but wii fanboys taking words out of context to shiet on the PS3.

Your obviously bias posts turn threads into flame wars, you trying to act all unbias is freaking hilarious.

Pleace dont trool anymore.

Annoyed indeed.  I hope you aren't banned for long.

I agree that this Christmas isn't very critical.

Christmas 2006 was the important one.

You're not helping the situation, windbane. More often than not I see you tweaking out in the Sony Forum over pretty minute things.

I think that this Christmas is very critical for PS3 because a lot of developers have been quite disappointed with the PS3, as we can see with a lot of exclusives going multiplatform, so if PS3 doesnt sell as well as its competition then it will lose even more current and potential software support. The more PS3 will rely on its 10 year lifetime the less of a chance it will have to survive, with each year that PS3 falls back behind its competitors the harder it will be to catch up later on, so this kind of attitude is very detrimental.

PS I live how Reeves badmouths his own company, 1st 20gb is not worth the trouble, now this christmas isnt that critical. Sony really needs to fire some of their retarded executives or at least hire people to write their press releases for them. They might be good at managing a business but the suck at PR.

You're assuming the Wii still sells out till then and PS3 sales don't go up which are both probably wrong.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

He has a pretty good point, as Christmas 08 will decide which console will going to be the long term winner.

Even if one of the consoles has a good showing at Christmas, that still does not mean it has won. We're still only in the first few years of each console.

P.S. Nice job Nintendo fanboys for finding a way to put a negative spin on it. Keep up the good work!

Er... the console that was going to be the long term winner was determined about 3 months ago, when it was apparent that the Wii hype wasn't just going to disappear.  The console with the strongest launch months always wins, but hey, hope is good right, so keep on dreaming.

I agree with Erik and say the most critical Christmas for Sony is behind us in 06.

But I also think the next critical Christmas will be the one in which Wii 2 or Xbox 720 hits.

For all intensive purposes, if Sony is in it for the "ten year" spread we have been hearing about at nausea, there will come a critical transition period of new consoles within that 10 year plan of Sony's.

I think that overlap of new consoles to the middle years of PS3's life will be vital, unless Sony pulls the plug quick on PS3 much like MS did with the original Xbox.
