^The Nikkei Index has never recovered from the great crash in early 1990. With the credit crunch going on, things are worse than ever.
Obviously the people will care more about food than entertainment at this point.

It's low because this is almost always the lowest week of the year in Japan. Their holiday season is about to begin and it's always very slow just prior.
