When you see the words, "New sales numbers are up!" and you hope a certain console did well, you are a fan of that console. You're probably also male. In other words, you're a fanboy.
I'm here to tell you it's ok. The days of the word fanboy being an insult are over.
People say, "You're an idiot! It doesn't affect you! You're not Sony/MS/Nintendo, you won't benefit when they do well! FAAANBOOOYYY!!!"
... and then they paint their face for the New York Giants game.
I don't know if there's a European equivalent, but Ford and Chevy fanboys have been arguing for nearly a century.
People love competition. Even if they're not the ones competing, they love to watch. Every fight draws a crowd, and every person in that crowd has a favorite, whether they admit it or not. Business is the apex of competition, and the console war one of the most vicious. Unlike sports, betting money on business is legal, Wall Street is the booky.
So come fanboys, come out from under your veil of shame. You have a favorite console, a favorite sports team, a favorite college, maybe even a favorite country. It's normal. When someone calls you a fanboy, stop denying it and tell them exactly why you're a fan.
