Forums - Sony - surround sound speakers & Games??

Well i am thinking about getting surround sound speakers, receiver and sub but do games support surround sound or am i just wasting my money by the way i am thinking about getting 7.1 surround sound so do games support that?

Around the Network

7.1 is overkill for anything but a very large living room. You'll be safe with 5.1.

Most last-gen games (and Wii games this gen) support Dolby Pro Logic II, which is basically simulated surround sound. Xbox 360, PS3, and certain Xbox games support true Dolby Digital surround sound. Either way, it's very much worth it as a gamer to invest in a surround sound setup. Just make sure your receiver supports multiple digital audio connections.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

You are not wasting your money by going surround.
I just picked up just a 5.1 system and hooked it up a short while ago and having never gamed in Surround sound before was absolutely and utterly blown away by the amount of awesome.
The opening scene in MGS4 in the Middle East was 300 times better than with flat stereo, hearing the rockets and bullets zing past...just get surround sound already dammit and see what I mean.
