Sony's controllers suck anyways. Bad joystick placement.
My personal top 10.
I was in a creative mood so I decided to put some effort into this list.
10 - Nintendo Entertainment System
Pros - Very simple big buttons, looks sweet :p
Cons - Edges not comfertable, D-pad kills thumbs.
9 - Guitar Hero
Pros - Most immersive controller ever, very comfertable, responsive buttons.
Cons - Expensive, only works for Guitar Hero (duh)
8 - Nintendo Wii Classic Controller
Pros - Comfertable for extended play, plenty of buttons for all retro consoles.
Cons - Feels cheap compared to other 1st part controllers, joysticks too close together.
7 - Game Boy Advance
Pros - Very comfertable for long play times.
Cons - Small D-Pad, not enough buttons.
6 - Nintendo 64
Pros - More then enough buttons, comfertable for long play sessions.
Cons - Joystick kills thumbs, D-pad never used, tiny C buttons.
5 - Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Pros - Amazing D-pad for extended play, comfertable buttons.
Cons - Very thin compared to other era controllers, prone to yellowing...(mine at least)
4 - Microsoft Xbox 360
Pros - Extremely comfertable for long play time, can be used with PC's.
Cons - Horride D-pad, bumpers feel 'clicky'
3 - Nintendo Wii Remote and Nunchuck
Pros - Motion controls, very comfertable for long playthroughs.
Cons - Runs on AA batteries, not enough buttons, 1-2 hard to reach.
2 - Nintendo Virtual Boy
Pros - Extremly comfertable controller, all buttons feel perfect, only good thing about Virtual Boy.
Cons - Battery pack is on the controller and heavy, 2nd D-pad is rarely used.
1 - Nintendo Gamecube
Pros - Amazingly comfertable can play for hours on end, L and R buttons feel good. The Perfect Controller.
Cons - C-Stick can slip under your thumb, odd Z trigger placement.
Bwa ha ha! This guys a kidder
Right?
Snes, Genesis and 360 controllers all earn the
Top 10 acceptable but mediocre controllers ever
Atari 2600
NES
PS1
Wiimote have to be the top four, simply because they each revolutionised gaming, joystick on a home console, d pad, control pad, motion control
I like this list. Some of the placement is off, there are inexcusable ommisions and the 360 pad at #1 is laughable at best. However, this is the only controller list i've ever seen that gives credit to anything other than the standard pads that come in the console box. Guncon 2? GH Guitar? Logitech Wheel? Steel Battalion monstrosity? At least give the guy credit for creativity. Those are some well made niche controllers there.
for god's sake, the xbox360 controller sucks compared to wiiremote and nunchunk!!

Sega Saturn pad is great.
I know Neo Geo CD is not popular in US, but if you've used one you know the Neo Geo CD's pad is indeed nice, especially for fighting games.
I agree with all that said that the sega turbo pad was terrible, felt too tiny and fragile IMHO, and the exclusion of the wiimote is lame
| __XBrawlX__ said: WiiMote pwns all of those controllers. Most revolutionary controller ever Anybody? |
Hitler was also considered revolutionary at the time, see how that turned out?
Wiimote deserves a mention, but 360 is the best, with gamecube a close second and Dualshock 2 third.
Wiimote fails to hit top 3 because of the clunky cable running between nunchuck and wiimote, had it been wireless completely, it would be upthere (and much more awesome).
