Forums - Sony - We need a price cut now SONY!!!

the ps3 doesn't need a price cut. it is a pretty decent price for all the free necessary features. also the ps3 is competing well against the 360. watch if sony waits till this march or april the ps3 will receive a 50-100 dollar price drop. after the recent announce about a new and smaller chip the ps3 will drop the price again and make a PS3 slim. at this point the ps3 will receive another price cut early november 2009. this will make the ps3 around 250 dollars next year. this is just a guess though.

I reckon a token price cut, say $25-$50 or thereabouts would kick things off. Throw out a few decent bundles and a good bit of advertising of LBP, Resistance 2 and the other exclusive titles and the wind may be cut out of the 360's sales. No chance of denting the Wii's momentum though.

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

I think because we track sales weekly that people forget that this is a marathon race, and not a sprint. Sony is doing fine, and they need to make money NOW. Hell, last Christmas, when the ps3 was losing even more money, they posted a profit. Get this Christmas quarter out of the way and rake in more profits because of all the kick ass games and smaller losses on the ps3 (but also smaller sales of ps2 probably) and then get aggressive next year with price cuts.

Reintroduce BC (at least in 160 GB) and sales will go through the roof.

We need a price cut now sony the ps3 is still too expensive, consumers like djmeister cant afford the ps3 because the entry price is still too high. Sony must act fast and reduce the ps3 to either $350 or $299 or risk losing more market share to the Xbox 360 and possibly christmas.

No, just no. You got it all wrong. Here is the real reason why DMeisterJ doesn't own a PS3.

So, if Sony cut thre price, DJMeister will not get a PS3 until 2010 :S
Probably he will buy a DSi instead :S

Yeah, if they brought back the hardware BC that was in the 20G and 60G they wouldn't need a price cut at all. Then PS3 could really give M&N a run for their money!

why would they want hardware bc? that was expensive that is why they went to software in the 80gb version.

sony can not cut price this year, . and if they do, 360 will do cut the cut too. they will continuing bundling strategy

I fully expect Sony to roll out a $299/299EUR model this autumn - this is the magic price point, the inflation-adjusted equivalent of $199 in 2000 dollars, where mass demand really takes off. Their cost reduction machine is running smoothly, so they won't be taking a big hit on the hardware.

Sony has been carefully preparing for this moment. Not only do they have a blockbuster roster of software available for the holiday season, ranging from MGS4 to LBP and R2, but BluRay has taken off, HDTVs are affordable, and the PS3 has become a true next-gen media hub, thanks to TV and movie downloads, trophies and multiplayer, and user-created spaces like Home. This holiday season should be spectacular...

i think there isnt really a need for a price cut but its would be nice. at $400 you get really good features compared to the 360. microsoft makes the 360 looks likes its cheaper but its not really. the xbox 360 does let you choose the features unlike the ps3 which automatically charges you.

im just waiting for the 45nm ps3 coming 2009.... could be a slim version too... i believe in future proof so im waiting :p
