Forums - General - DOW down by 778. Worst point drop in HISTORY.

Its pretty bad though. Look i don't think this going to motivate investors to stick with the market much longer. That's the main problem here and i got out last week. Not gonna risk it

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I hope you mean 21st century history.

In 1987 your stock market plunger by 25%. Today was only 4% and it reclaimed some of its lost value through the rest of the day. Remember, it could always be worse. 1920's worse that is.

It did not reclaim its value at all during the day. The lowest point before the bell tolled was 724. And its not 4%, its 7%. But, this is not the main problem. The bigger problem is the credit market is frozen. This is a much more significant issue.

It might be the biggest drop, but it sure isn't as bad as you make it out to be.

I didn't write the article.  My comment at the beginning is about the equivalent of a sentence.  I am not "making it out to be" much more than what the article says.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. It's bad, but popping the bubble that is the current finance system hurts.
The US government dept is something way more concerning in my perspective though, it's like 10 trillion or
something, I think thats what needs some urgent fixing

How can you possibly misspell QWERTY? It's spelled correctly on the damn keyboard.

I am worried about the rest of the week. As the first day in the week, a 778point drop is not the best news. the house better do something because the markets are getting screwed up

I am really curious to see what the market does the rest of the week.

You know whats nice about being poor? I don't have any money to lose.

I'm also glad I got my car loan BEFORE all this happened.

So what about all those close to retirement with 401ks? Or those who lose their job if businesses can't make credit for payroll etc? Guess those middle class workers are out of luck.

I remember reading about this on the Bungie forums....
Since the number 7 is often associated with Bungie and Halo ( someone just kept it at 777.7 drop)...
Everyone was making theories about Bungie taking over the market in their quest for global domination...

Good times... Good times...
