I have now been online in a game, Socom 1 for PS2.

"A little late" you say. Yes, but before this all i had was a dial up ISP that didn't support PS2 online, and here are my inpressions

Online cheating is a big problem, but hopefully in newer games this has been taken care of.

People are idiots, yes i know you can say the word poop repeatedly between matches

It's hard as heck, but rewarding when you get that dude who kills you 10,000 times

All and All i enjoyed my experince immensely and the free online feature for PS3 might just convince me to get one at the end of this gen (when they drop below $250)

naww u should just get a ps3 now

cuz LBP, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 and others are coming out, tht means there is gonna be hell of alot of non-stop, addictin fun online. but its ur choice to wait to get a ps3 in 3-4 years from now... maybe even longer

Sorry don't have $400 for a game system, heck even the wii is a bit expensive for me now. (Don't tell me a core 360 is $200, i wouldn't get a system that needs an expensive HDD add on to work properly, 360 is still $300 IMO) besides, i need backwards compatiblity, and I'm hoping it'll be restored at the end off gen (BC is why i got a PS2)

naww its ok, its understandable i was juss saying cuz i dont see any iniative in sony to drop ps3 prices any time soon, but its good tht ur thinkin bout gettin a ps3

The ps3's online is LEAGUES above the ps2's online. Seriously, they aren't even comparable. At all.

That certainly is good, i got totally addicted to it today, tomorrow i may just start up Socom 2 and 3 and play those online, i am really experimenting now that I've upgraded to high speed inernet. Could any of you tell me other good online ps2 games that still have there servers up and running?

Killzone. It had it's technical problems, and they really hurt the campaign, but the multiplayer was a blast, both online and off (bots ftw!).

You can't really judge an online game that is that old. The community was great back in it's prime, and the cheating didn't really become rampant till a while after SOCOM II came out.

I expect SOCOM II's community is a little better than the original. Personally I liked it more. Or at least I played it more. I always kind of hated how they turned Abandoned into a night map though.
