Forums - Microsoft - August's revenue numbers for Xbox live - simply amazing

And with the reduced pricing for XBL points, sales are going to get even better.

Don't forget Portal, Southpark, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Vigilante 8 are still to come. With the new Xbox Experience, Xbox Live Arcade could get even better next year.

I really love XBLA. A game like Braid wouldn't be possible without Arcade. Nobody would have ever played it. It is a game by 2 independent developers. Now this game made $ 2,300,000.00 revenue. It is so nice to see that a creative gameplay, even if the game is low-budget, still sells well. Too many times I payed 60€ for a game that turned out to be crap.

How would Braid not be possible without Arcade? It did sell great, but it would've sold far more on PC.

He meant in regards to the 360. Without the XBLA, that game would not have been available through normal retail channels.

Wrong.

Jonathan Blow was initally turned away from PC development for Braid because he attempted to first get the game published on Steam and other digital distribution websites and mechanisms. He was unable to do such when analysts told him that Braid, if published on PC first, would struggle to sell 5,000 copies LTD. That led him to XBLA.

150,000 units later, Braid will goto PC. Not because PC was the better medium, but because now that PC owners know about it, it has a better chance. So Braid was only possible due to Arcade, and Jonathan Blow said that himself.

As for XBLA sales on a month v. month basis. September #s still have 1 week to go:

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Another reason why XBLA has the most number of games out of the 3 and why it is the best.

Valve didn't have enough vision to let Braid onto steam from what I've read. Braids inclusion in the summer of XBLA really helped it. There's no denying it, Braid was a success because of the xbox live marketplace.
