Speculation on B-Net suggest that this might be a game where you play an ODST marine in between the falling of New Mambosa, and the return of the Master Chief. Evidence to those theories, is pretty strong I would think.

Yes this is most likely. The player will not play as Masterchief that is obvious, why? Because This is Halo 3 and it's set on an Earthly city. We already know what Masterchief did from the time he landed to the time he ended drifting in space.
Personally I cannot wait to play more of my favourite FPS. Halo 3 was by far the best of the 3 ( most balanced, best FPS AI and good level design) And this should be awesome. Damn I love the Halo story and universe.
Wonder what this stuff is gonna be? I cannot wait.
