Forums - General - I'm getting a new Hi Def TV need some advice.

I have heard people rave about the Sony Bravia as well. I won't personally endorse it or anything, but I think you should definitely look at it.

One thing I do recommend you do if you want to save some money is that you shop around in stores and look at the TV's you want, and then try to find the same one online by writing down all the product information. Sometimes you can save as much as $500, thereby easing your pocketbook a little. Amazon is one good place to look. I think newegg.com has good prices too.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

If you own a non HD system and don't want it to look like crap and full of Jaggies, Plasmas are MUCH better. Really their picture quality is better overall too. I play my Wii and PS2 on a 42 inch Samsung Plasma (Wii with component cables) and my friend plays his Wii with component cables on his LCD... and man let me tell you, the difference between quality of my non-HD games on my TV and his non-HD games on his TV is unbelievable. Even his 360 looks better on my TV than on his. I HIGHLY recommend Plasma over LCD.

my friend has a Sony Bravia and i have a Sony Grand Wega. I used to own a Wii. I had no major jaggy problems and my friend had WAY less then I did on his Bravia. For LCDs go Sony. But if you can wait, wait till the end of the year for Sony's OLCD TVs. They will blow your mind (1m:1 picture quality per pixel)

best bet, go into the store and ask for a deal. Iam sure you can save plenty if you tell em you want a HDTV maybe surroundsound and a console.

Best LCD are the Sony Bravias, really great colors. If you get a LCD make sure it has deep dark blacks.

Plasma will be bigger yet cheeper then a LCD, but its not ideal for gaming. Ask if they have any plasmas with game mode. You do not want to get burn in.

For a console since your getting a nice HDTV, PS3 is the best buy. You get HD bluray movies and some of the best games coming out in the next year and a half.

And of course for a great deal with till August 1st for the 80GB PS3. 20GB more then 60GB + extra controller + motorstorm + 5 free blu-ray movies = awesome deal for $599.

But Plasmas with game modes dont always work. My friend eric has a plasma. He has a burn in of the assault rifle from the halo 3 beta lmfao. Its kinda funny seeing an assault rifle shape while watching a movie.

They have 60 gb ps3's for 459.99 at my local FYE.  Its a 40 dollar mail in rebate though.  I dont find motor storm and the 20 gb to be worth 100 dollars anyways.  I also got my DS Lite for $90 from FYE with a 40 dollar rebate.  I don't know why they're doing that lol...

Well I don't know, maybe your Bravia is newer than my friend's.  All I can testify to is my personal experience.  In my personal expreience a Samsung Plasma has better picture for Wii and PS2 games than a Bravia LCD.  Of course experiences are subjective and opinionated.  Personally, Jaggies are a huge turnoff for me, but there are people who they don't bother at all.  The other nice thing is the Plasma's are cheaper for the quality you get.

Oh and on screen burn, the Wii has an anti-screen burn mode (I would hope the 360 and PS3 do too), and burn doesn't happen quickly or anything anyway. Just don't leave a game paused more than 5-10 minutes with the TV on the paused game channel. With the Wii it doesn't matter, because of it's setting it will never cause screen burn, but with the PS2 I basically just turn the TV off or switch to regular cable channels when I'm pausing the game. A slight inconvenience, but for the difference in quality certainly worth it.

I don't know why you would dis a Vizio so much. Their sets are actually pretty well made and are a hellavu lot of bang for the buck. Of course if money is no object, get a bravia or something high end. If not, the Vizio is quite nice. I'd agree that maxent, westinghouse, and olevia aren't something you want, though...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

My friend bought a Sharp Aquos 42" LCD and it looks absolutely great. I'm comparing it to my 52" Hitachi rear projection though, so of course the edge colors will be a little better defined, but his TV puts my 5-lens Hitachi to shame. I only wish it had a glossy filter. I know the glossy filters can glare and reflect, but they produce a much better picture. This is why some of the plasma TVs look so good. They all have glass filters.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.
