Interesting trivia, aside from the territories which only have one seat, Alberta and Prince Edward Island are the only two provinces which are entirely represented by a single political party.
Of course for tiny PEI, this doesn't mean much, but for Alberta, it gives the province the pride of knowing that while having a large impact on the makeup of our government, they can still be taken for granted by their party, and ignored by the others. |
The citizens of Alberta are generally stuck between a rock and a hard-place when it comes to Canadian politics ...
All Albertans really want is for the Federal Government to run balanced budgets, to respect provincial jurisdiction, to focus on (and excel at) federal responsibilities, and to introduce checks and balances to the powers held by the parlement and prime minister. The only political party who even comes close to offering this is the Conservatives, for decades the Liberals and NDP run on introducing social programs which fall into provincial jurisdiction while completely ignoring the federal governments responsiblities; and neither the Liberals or NDP are willing to limit the dictatorial powers of the Prime Minister and to allow for a Tripple E Senate that acts as a balance to the parlement.
