Forums - General - Canadians: Steven Harper or Stephane Dion?

The conservative party of Canada disgusts me. They opposed my right to marriage and my freedom to use marijuana but I still won't vote for the Liberal Party entirely because of Stephon Dion. I'm voting NDP this time around.

I don't know why on earth the Liberals voted for that poor socially inapt Stéphane Dion. He's going to run his party to the ground.

The conservatives did have a vote on gay marriage but that was because they promised it to their western base during the campaign. To shut them up they had their vote but Harper knew full well that the vote woudn't pass and since then they haven't brought up the issue.

I voted NDP last election but here in Quebec they don't have that big of a chance of being elected. It's impressive that I have 4 parties to vote for and none of them really fits my views. I don't know how Americans do it with just two choices.

Signature goes here!

Conservative right here. Harper is a fucking champ. Not like it really matters; My constituency is absolutely dominated by the Liberals and the NDP.

I don't expect the NDP to win more seats that the Liberals, but they are definitely fighting hard to become the opposition.

I remember four years ago, people in my classroom (I live in Toronto, a city with one of the lowest concentration of conservatives in all of Canada) would mock me for saying that the conservatives would come to power.

i saw the first NDP sign in my town today. really sad that its taken them this long...i had actually wondered if they even had someone running. Conservative ones started popping up the day the election became official. liberals put up a few about a week after.

I think I have only seen a couple NDP signs in my life, that could be because the second someone puts a sign up for the NDP the police come to their house and put them on a bus to BC ...

NDP in Quebec are at their highest levels in decades.  They'll probably win a handful of seats.

I personally am voting NDP.  I'm a socialist, even more so than the NDP are and they best suit my interest.  Plus, the Liberal incumbent in my area is a joke and has done NOTHING for the region except eat up tax dollars.  Useless toad.

Oh, and the Liberals are hardly "Liberal" .  They're more liberal than the Conservatives, but they're still right-wing.

Its odd, I have the complete opposite opinion of the Liberals and Conservatives as you do ...

The Conservative Party of Canada is not (particularly) conservative at all, they only seem conservative in comparison to how big of socialists the other parties are. In terms of American politics the Conservative party would represent moderate Democrats or Republicans, and in Canada they're seen as a scary right wing party ...

i generally veiw them as center-left and center-right.

So don't compare it to American Politics. Whenever possible, Canadian political debate improves when we stop trying to compare everything to that country south of the border.

And yes TruckOSaurus - the NDP's fortunes in Quebec are really looking up. Now would be a better time than any to vote for them in that province.
