Forums - General - Why are AOL users so in favor of McCain?

Recently I got AIM, and usually when you install programs from sites, they'll try to take over anything they can (specifically, my browser). I'm not sure whether I agreed to it or not, but it made AOL.com my home page and I just don't feel like changing it. Anyways, one day, I happened upon a straw poll by the site between Obama and McCain, and the results were simply...unrealistic.

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/09/18/aol-straw-poll-sept-18-25/

Not only is the lead for McCain so much bigger than what most polls would indicate, but he won nearly every state (at least among those who voted in the poll). He won in states that are shoe-ins for Obama (Illinois, Maryland, Hawaii, etc.). There are only a couple places in the country where he even won (Vermont and D.C. of those I can see). And if you look at the comments section, it's almost unanimous hate for Obama.

Normally I wouldn't care enough to make a thread about it, but I'd love to hear some theories for this. It's simply...strange. Why AOL.com users?

Because they are SOOO conservative that they haven't realized that the majority of this country has moved on from AOL? Hence they would vote for the best conservative candidate, John McCain?

Explanation of sig:

I am a Pakistani.....my name is Dan....how hard is that? (Don't ask about the 101...apparantely there are more of me out there....)

I'd guess it has somethign to do with the like 8 digit letters you have to type in there... then another 8 letter one you have to type in.

Also the first time i clicked "Vote now" there was only a button under McCain... which for some reason opened up both buttons.

Now if that's a flaw in the site and counts as a vote for McCain.... there you go.  If not, after that the button popped up for both... and even then, a lot of people for Obama might of thought there was just an error on the page.

Even with all that, 62, 38 is actually pretty close.

ehhh... might not be that considering other polls though...

Is Barak Obama exploiting racial tensions for political blame... Yes 68%.

Hah! Mac pulled a virtual Nixon landslide! Too bad he can't count on AOL for electoral polls.

McCain can't use a computer?

And it's because of his war injuries?

What war injury is preventing him from using a computer?
