Forums - General - What is you favorite book?

This thread might have a life of only about 3 seconds according to the idea that gamers are illterate morons who only love violence (this is a joke- yes this forums is so bad where you have to point when u are using sracsm)

But I am 16 years old and I love to read as much as I game. I read a good mixture of literary classics like The Scarlet Letter(meh) and Frankenstein (awesome) but mostly I read fantasy or ficiton.

My three favorite books are:

3) Casino Royale- yes the original Bond novel, Its short and surprisingly deep. More philosophical then I expected it to be, gives insight to post WW2 European notions of good and Evil and actiony.

2) The Davinci Code- Made me feel smart reading it and had a couple of great twists and turns, People who take the slant against religion though are missing the point of the story.

1) I won't say what it is just because it will make me sound like a loser but I will say its the best volume in the bestselling series of book in the world.

Jude the Obscure - Thomas Hardy

Probably one of the most forward thinking novels I have ever read, even more so than a lot of the British Modernists. Hardy coincidentally influenced a lot of their work.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

1. Foundation, by Isaac Asimov
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, by JK Rowling
3. The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien

Ok I'll admit it Goblet of Fire is my favorit book of all time I'm sorry its just so awesome. Executed greatly and dark. The movie sucked though.

Oh and another thing about Casino Royale it has without a doubt the best ending line ever.

"Yes dammit I said "was", the bitch is dead now!"

Other notable books for me are the Alchemist, Wiseguys (became the movie goodfellas), Tunes for bears to Dance to, The Kite Runner and A thousand splendid suns.

Heh, I have the same problem, I love HP3, but the movie is one of the worst I've ever seen (right there with Cloverfield and War of the Worlds). I thought GoF movie was decent, though

1-3 were good with the Prisoner of Azkiban being the best one(though i wanted more quidditch), the director for that one Alfonso Cuaron was excellent he also Children Of Men which was just as gritty. the fourth and fifth films were unwatchable(though i have them on dvd) Heres hoping HBP movie will be good but it was delayed.

Anyway Lets keep this about books not just Harry Potter

^^ the first two were terrible!, the third was decent, the fourth wasnt too bad and the fifth was good.

We'll never agree on that. I can say that the first was good, the second was decent, the third was horrible, the fourth was decent and the fifth was very good, and we'll keep on talking till the sixth comes out. But we're derailing this topic a lot
