there is no clear definition of failure but the way sony fans have been hyping this game LBP could sell 5M units and there'd still be room to argue it failed. i think it will do well but i don't think it will cause any shift momentum for any of the consoles like many seem to think it will.

it's all about the expectations.

5 million copies would be a 32% attach rate currently. I highly doubt it. Being released a week after Wii Music I'm sure won't help things.

I do believe the game will succeed in pleasing customers, gaining critical praise, and showing that the ps3 is more than an FPS box. Even if the game doesn't succeed sales wise I can see a massive marketing campaign for it helping Sony "un-Hardcore" their image.

This along with other games coming from Sony Europe will help solidify that image(Eyepet or whatever it's called) This will mean alot more once a price drop happens at the end of their fiscal year which is when i would expect them to release it.

I think it will be a moderate success.

The price of PS3 is too high to attract LBP's target market.  It will be purchased only by fanboys, but that's more than enough to make a profit.

they are putting in other charcaters so that LBP becomes linked with sony for casuals. not sure if it will work
