Try Vagrant Story, Killer 7, FF12 or Demon's Souls for cringe-free scripting and quality VO. From my experience, western videogame stories are the equivalent of effluent waste. From the unintentional hilarity of Gears of War to the coma-inducing drudgery of Fallout 3, to the cliched Star Trek vibe of Mass Effect, the west can turn out vacuous, insipid, pap with the best of them.

The West are no less capable of telling a story than Japan is.  BioShock is a great example.  Take a look at a lot of the books that are written in the West.  And I do not mean Twilight.

I'll play a FPS with a crowd, but never alone. Generally it's the accepted view that they're superior on PC, and that's true, but I've grown out of them across every platform. Too much flash and bang and not enough substance.
