Are you accounting for inflation and the fact that the economy grows each year (meaning more gross revenue for the government to tax each year), both of which when considered would significantly lower your estimate of how much revenue was collected under the Bush Administration?

That's what I thought...

are you saying that bush tax cut did not bring more money into the govt?

are you saying that economy did not grow?

was I bragging about Bush?

I said that economy grew and govt brought in more money all the while the bubble kept growing.  I'm admitting that the White house didn't do anything about the problem.

Can you admit that clinton made the same mistake?  of course not.

What about the democrat controlled congress?  what are they doing?  Nothing!!!!!!!

what is their approval rate?  You can't trust Obama to make a change?

Did you answer my question...no, you didn't.  You just casually passed over it and are attributing things to me that I didn't even say.  I did not say the economy didn't grow, in fact you were the one who ignored that it has grown in your analysis.

Just because Bush brought in more revenue does not mean anything if you aren't accounting for inflation or the fact that every year there are more dollars to tax out there because the economy grows, meaning that even if you leave taxes the same YOU WILL DRAW MORE REVENUE EACH YEAR.  Inflation makes the discrepancy even more.  So Bush probably brought in less revenue than Clinton once you account for inflation and the revenue as a percentage of GDP.

And maybe the reason the Democrats can't do anything in Congress is because the Republicans have tried to block as many major initiatives as they can to simply say that the Democrats haven't been doing their job even if it means that change that needs to happen can't happen.  The recent fiasco over passing legislation to remedy the oil situation is a great example.

Luckily the American public is smarter than that, and will take it out on the Republicans in office come November.

Probably? Possibly.

Maybe?

Hey those Republicans are not very good for America in you opinion so I hope Democrats will win for you.  I mean that.

I do not dislike Obama, I trust him less.  Obama has a hard road ahead of him if he becomes the president.

I vote for change.

so I'll vote for McCain.

I dont see how people can say that with a straight face.

I just don't see how Obama is going to bring about change.

he blames the white house for the problem we are facing.  McCain blames the greed and corruption of wall street.  I agree with McCain on this.  dont you?  seriously!

You honestly believe a republican is going to go after large corporations and stop corporate greed?  Are you for real??

McCain wants to give them more tax breaks.  This will really cause them to change.

How can you claim to be right if you didn't even incorporate those very important factors into your initial analysis?  You obviously don't have a firm grasp on how economics and government revenue work in the first place, and you didn't even post any numbers here to argue with besides an arbitrary percentage and no link to backup what you said.

You assessed the situation far too simplistically and probably just mentally copied and pasted what you read somewhere without looking at the facts behind the statement.

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Yes, and his name is Ron Paul.

sorry, but I didn't say I was right. When did i say that?  I actually hoped that Obama will win for your sake.

I'm not an expert on the issue but I do read this guy almost daily.

He's a republican who bashes both parties - and blames the Feds and the corruption in Wall Street.

You might not like him, but that's where I get my understanding of economy.

Its cool, nothing personal, I just prefer when people make their claims with some tangible data behind them.

I mean I honestly believe our economic problems are way too large for either party to solve at this point, and we are destined for another fiasco on the level of the Great Depression, and it may already be at our doorstep...we do need to try to get the national debt under control whoever is in office, Democrat or Republican.

I just blame Republicans more on the national debt issue because the yearly deficit has shot up under Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. more than anyone else, and to a degree which no amount of political spinning can overlook.  That makes the entire revenue argument moot to begin with because the deficit matters a lot more than revenue however you look at it.

If the Americans are intelligent enough to surmise that the lack of progress for the 110th Congress is because of Republican opposition, then should they not be intelligent enough to surmise that the Democrats were not doing a good job as opposition to the Republicans?

Its hard to get much done when you have a one person majority in the Senate if the other party is trying to block your every move to save face politically (which didn't work by the way).

So when the Republicans have a slight lead in Congress, everything that happens is the Republicans fault. And when Democrats have a slight lead in Congress, everything that happens in Republicans fault. LOL

Democrats could have ended this war. They didn't. That's why they have the worst approval rating in US history.

They say "It the Republicans fault we have high gas prices, put us in Office and we will lower them". Then when they are in office, the party line is "Gas prices are high due to a Global economy, and there is not much that Congress can do to lower it". (which is true, but it was true with a Republican run Congress).

They all lie. If you think Democrats lie less, or care about you more, your a fool. They all lie.

I do know they care about me less, you know why, because my family's income puts me in the top 1% of Americans (who the Democrats want to raise taxes on).  And my parents both vote Democratic as well.

I am able to put my country's needs before my needs, and mine and other people's personal freedoms ahead of some extra money.

All politicians lie, I agree, but some politicians are willing to do what is best for the country rather than what gets them reelected.  Even John McCain would agree with that!
