Forums - General Discussion - Apple iPhone 3G or Sony Playstation 3?

Okay, this is not an iPhone discussion thread, I already know it's awesome. Make a new thread for that.

This is about whether I should get an iPhone or a PS3.

Around the Network

I would get the Iphone.
I have to wait until January to renew my contract with Att.

well first of, the iphone sucks. SOOOOO many better phones out there, just minus the hype oh and the reception issues. PS3 FTW.

I had a similar question few months ago.
New set of golf clubs or a new PS3.
People on this site advised me to get the the clubs and that's what I did.

I love the clubs and my game is getting better and better.

I don't understand the iPhone hate. It's the most useful device I own and I would easily forfeit every other device I own before the iPhone (excepting my work computer).

iPod, phone, email access, Internet, gps device, yellow pages, on the go camera, etc etc etc all in one device. Briiliant. I don't know how I lived without it.

The app store increased the usefulness of the phone incredibly. There are some bitter little kids in this thread.

okay look for this devices.

nokia 5800 "tube" , nokia n96, motorola zn 5, blackberry thunder, samsung onmia, lg viewty, sony ericsson x1.

then come back and think of what you said.

Er? Because other companies make nice phones, the usefulness of the iPhone is somehow invalidated?

Like I said, I do not understand the hate for the iPhone. It's a hell of a device, just like some of the phones you listed.

no all those phones are cheaper on contract even free and have more features than the iphone.

even retail they are not more expensive than the iphone also you can get them without a contract.

if he just wants the nice interface he can get a touch and save money.

I don't understand all this talk about how expensive the iPhone is. Verizon is WAY more money. I should know, i was a customer of theirs for well over a decade. T-Mobile is cheap but their coverage sucks. Sprint, well I don't know a lot about them.

At $200, the iPhone isn't much different than other phones with its feature set. The monthly contract is lower than Verizon, the only other company with comparable coverage.

The cellphone service is the main drawback of the Iphone. It is way too expensive.

No more expensive than owning a blackberry, or any other smart phone.  The Blackberry service is 40 bucks per month, and the iPhone data plan is the same :-/

@ Ssj

Or buy an iPhone, next year, the PS3 will get a price drop.

I got a blackberry and It's cheaper than the iphone because iphone is strictly AT&T which overcharges on their data plan for no reason. T-Mobile FTW!. Anyways, I would say that u should buy a PS3, I've used my friend's iphone and it's just like my brothers Ipod touch, AKA the novelty of the iphone will wear off. Also, the iphone is not the best phone out there LOL and I know that many ppl want it cuz its apple and cuz its touch screen, but if u wait a few months, a much better touch screen phone will come out, the HTC touch HD. It does wat the iphone is known for, but better (bigger screen, double the screen resolution).

The iPhone is far better then those devices at everything they all do (aside from being a phone, the iPhone is an adequate phone. but nothing better then any other phone).

  • Best phone for playing games: iPhone
  • Best phone for watching movies: iPhone
  • Best phone for playing music: iPhone
  • Best phone for surfing the web? iPhone
  • Best phone for storing and viewing pictures: iphone
  • Best phone for email: iphone

Where the iPhone is not the best, is as a camera, and it's GPS does not do turn by turn. It does have google maps, and that blows most phones away with it's usefulness compared to there GPS/Map offerings.

The iPhone kicks ass.

Oh God, did I just see that right? Did u just say that the best phone for email is the iphone LMAOOO. Blackberry is KNOWN for having the best email. If u knew anything about smartphones, u would know that push email (wat Blackberries do) is better than pull email (wat Iphone does). Everything else was right, but that email thing made me laugh.

Edit: The iphone JUST got push email with their software update 2.0, it still doesn't make it's email better than blackberries. Hell, if it was better, y is it that corporations use Blackberries instead of iphones? It's not because iphone released not too long ago, it's because Blackberries email is better (also because the keyboard on the iphone is kinda bad/hard to type fast and accurately)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push_e-mail#BlackBerry

"BlackBerry became very popular, in part because it offers remote users "instant" e-mail; new e-mails appear on the device as soon as they arrive, without the need for any user intervention. The handheld becomes a mobile, dynamically updating, copy of the user's mailbox. As a result of the success of BlackBerry, other manufacturers have developed push e-mail systems for other handheld devices, such as Symbian based mobile phones."

Businesses use Blackberry because they've been doing it forever and because many businesses already use RIMs enterprise software for email. The infrastructure is entrnched in the business world. If you knew anything about smartphones, you would know that.

Anyway, the iPhone does a good job of handling email now that they push it. Blackberries do a fine job, too. I've owned a few. Nice phones with unbeatable settings options. Just set my father up with a new Curve last week. It's definitely lacking compared to the iPhone in some regards, though.
