Forums - General - Hurricane IKE

I can see that most people in USA are quite excited about the upcoming election, but there's something much more important going on right now; a huge hurricane getting ready to pound Texas with storm sea surge, very intense winds and flooding rains. To a lesser extent, even Louisiana and Mississipi will be affected. Besides the obvious human impact, it may affect the whole country (and even world) due to a lot of oil production and refining infrastructure being in the potential path of destruction.

I just checked on its status and it's bigger than Katrina in terms of size. It's not as intense in terms of winds (and likely won't be from what I read), but it can still strengthen a lot as it's not moving fast, and is above very warm waters. It will probably become a Category 3 or 4 storm later on.

Are you in any way affected by the storm? Are you (or did you) going to evacuate or are you going to ride it out? Either way, be safe and rational in your decisions by all means possible!

DISCLAIMER: This is pretty obvious, but don't rely on the information above, which is all based on my interpretation of what I've read about the storm. Refer to your local and national weather institutions for expert information.
