Forums - Sony - Why doesn't Sony advertise the PS3 in NA much?

Because Sony see North America is a lost cause. There is no way they can catch up to the Wii or the 360 in this upcoming holiday season. Sony is really pushing the PS3 in the Europe market where they can easily beat out the 360 and take some of the Wii market shares. PS3 is like 4 millions units behind the 360 in North America.

i completley disagree with Sony being a lost cause in NA. They may never catch the 360 userbase in NA but its still am important region to sell systems and half of Sony's studios (SCEA) are in NA!

What I never get is how Sony lost the North America market to both Nintendo and M$ this gen.  The PS1 and PS2 control the gaming industry in North Americal for a decade and just overnight the userbase just jump ship to the Wii and 360.

No way dude.  Sony has not given up on North America.  If they have given up anywhere it is Japan.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Alot of the userbase still hasen't jumped anywhere...The PS3 is still recovering in NA from all the bad press in 2006 it received ...you know "too expensive", "Blu ray is useless", "no games"... Since things have changed since Holidays 2007 Sony should get momentum back in NA with advertisement of the new 80GB or fall releases

they are likely waiting till november to advertise the bundles, so when people go in for the holiday rush they are like "oh yeah i seen that commercial, do you have that bundle in?"

I don't think the PS3 is a lost cause in NA. Its selling just as well as the xbox360 right now. It's only so far behind atm because the xbox360 had a 1 yr head start. You Also need to remember that the original xbox did quite well in NA, so it already had a decent fanbase. Its still too early too call a winner. For all you know, the xbox360 could peak at 15-20mil units in NA.

Also, I think Sony wants to save a bit of money. Advertisements isn't cheap. So they're most likely saving it for the holiday period, where all their big hitters are coming out. I'm sure you're gonna see alot of LBP bundles being advertised.

I haven't really seen any ads regarding consoles, but I do see 'em turn up for games every now and then. The end of the commercial typically explains which consoles the game is available on, except Wii versions which tend to be inter-mixed by people going ape with the Wiimote. I guess games are driving the consoles at this point, but we'll see some console ads come Christmas season.

obviously they will advertise when christmas hits.but damn, its going to be tough toping the"ladies and gentleman" commercial.

Could be where I just live but latley I haven't seen any Sony TV advertisement for the PS3...I remember at launch there were commericials all the time, then last year there was the  "Ladies and Gentlemen" commericial...Earlier this year they had MLB 08 the Show...But for the last 3-4 months I haven't seen anything to do with PS3 with the exception of the MGS4 commercial that I saw once. Im hoping this Holiday season Sony start putting out advertisment for the PS3 one with Socom would be great...

Anyone else agree?

Because in last 3 - 4 months lots of Sony's executives have babies due to which they had to buy large quantities of diapers and pampers on the emergency basis... As these were unexpected arrivals therefore they diverted the NA advertisement funds towards this heavy buying for the short term... In next quarter they probably will devote adequate resources and then NA advertisement fund will be properly used for the advertisments of PS3.

They'll advertise more when they can afford to drop the price. $399 is a huge chunk of change for a console and with how tight the American economy has been the last 6-12 months, there's no sense doing some major advertising when they won't even make back the advertising costs since they're barely turning a profit.

Just curious
I live in NA so when a Multi-platform game is advertised on tv it ends with the Xbox 360 logo...with the exception of GTAIV there was a seperate commercial for both

In Europe is it the opposite for multiplat games?
