Forums - General - nothing about McCains speech?

heres what i got from everything....
McCain wants to empower the people...and Obama wants the people to empower him.

Oh man, you are such a genius!  How can you be so perceptive as to the inner workings of each politician's mind and their social policies!  We should just elect you for president!

You probably didn't even watch Obama's speech, so your opinion on the issue is irrelevant.  I am a staunch Obama supporter, but I watched and enjoyed McCain's speech.  And you act like I am biased.  I even watched Palin's speech, although I did not enjoy that one.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Palin's speech was much worse. It was too much of the Republican party of yesterday (which if you ask the average voter, is a terrible, terrible thing).

If by "Average" voter you mean "Core Democrat Voter" than you could be correct ...

Most voters are centerists (relative to their political system) and are fairly comfortable with being governed by either party as long as they are not too extreme (relative to their political system). Even if they disagree with a candidate on a particular issue they may vote for them if their stance is not too extreme; as an example, currently (in the United States) most of the more-moderate voters would not see a problem with voting for someone who wanted a ban on full-term abortions.

Now, I'm starting to get the impression that Palin was selected by McCain in order to placate his conservative base by enabling her to speak to and for them; and at the same time she is supposed to enrage the more extreme elements of the Democratic party. The end result of this is John McCain can then target the more moderate voters himself, who may be very nervous about the direction the Democrats would take the country based on the crazy stuff that some Obama supporters do and say.

True... I mean look at it this way... there are like... 12 Million more registered democrats in the country then republicans... yet Bush somehow beat John Kerry.

LMAO

OT: I haven't watched it, but to be honest, I don't think that these speeches will show who is a better candidate, and on top of that I'm not American

McCain did a fine job and more people tuned into see him than Obama. Thus, Palin did her job well.

It'll be interesting to see who wins the election but as of right now Democrats better come up with something to attack.

I called it like i saw it. I even gave reasons for my opinion with examples.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
