My favorite part is when he scolds his own party towards the end. Somebody's been needing to do that for a long time.

Yeah, I really liked his whole "everybody's spending too much, Republicans and Democrats alike" angle.

Kind've reminds me of Ron Paul.  :'(

Damn, I would be scared in a place with that many white people around me, and I AM white. I would be too afraid they would ask to do my taxes or sell me some life insurance and would probably flip out. They would have to get several guards to restrain me.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Akuma, it starts slow and keeps building. I was pretty disappointed with the first 15 minutes.

Its picking up by now. McCain is in straight-shooter mode, and that is when he is at his best. I'm glad he isn't in grumpy old man mode like he has been pretty recently.

The feedback is so bad...every time the crowd cheers there is mad distortion.

The crowd sounds loud, but they show the people and they look like they aren't too interested it's funny.

I would love to see McCain talk, I won't vote for him but he is one of the greatest Republican senators ever. Too bad he wants to be president... Oh well...

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

The speech is one of McCain's best speeches, but I find it a little slow-paced. It does have substance to it, and I greatly appreciate that. It is also avoiding negative politics, which is also great.

I give it a B/B+ so far whereas Obama gets an A-/A

Akuma, why are libs always the first to mention race? Who gives a crap how much melanin a person has in their skin? It doesn't change their character or substance. I mean, seriously, what's the fascination?

The RNC overall seems boring and tired to me, while the DNC appears very active and emotional. Much more energetic, younger, more of a part feel.

McCain speech was nice.

Whether the RNC is boring and tired is subjective. The DNC probably appeared younger because the 18-29 group is solidly Democratic. The RNC has appeared as a more subdued convention (despite yesterday's blistering attacks), but the week started off on a bit of a somber note.

I just don't trust older, rich, white people.  They scare me.  It's mostly a joke too.

Now McCain is beating the small government drum (which I hate), but at least he is more likely to stick to that mantra than most Republicans.
