Forums - General - nothing about McCains speech?

I am going to watch it now. I was at the gym when it was on. McCain is worth listening to even though I don't plan on voting for him.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

It's funny that no one raises an eyebrow when a thread creator insults two members in his original post, called for or not. Political threads truly are lowering the bar for Off Topic.

how did i insult them? i was worried about them

"I like my steaks how i like my women.  Bloody and all over my face"

"Its like sex, but with a winner!"

They would have said the same thing about him. I didn't see any personal attacks, just some jesting (when's the last time you heard THAT word get used?).

I ignored it because akuma and rubang are big boys and deal a fair amount of shit at bubbles in various threads.

Thems politics.

But seriously, I was pleasantly surprised by the speech. I was somewhat worried about McCain's speaking abilities, but he really pulled it off. He seemed genuine, likeable, and showed some real emotion and passion in the second half. I particularly liked that he took the high road by offering few direct attacks against Obama. Classy and Presidential, I have to agree with Rocketpig.

It's quite normal in America to tear a person apart on one issue, and then joke around with them later - or join up on an issue.

This one isn't an issue, but it's still funny to see them together:

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Its cool, I know that personal attacks are for those who don't actually have anything relevant to say, so I don't take them personally.

it's funny, I think Guiliani had the best speech, he hit hard and often.
