Forums - Gaming - Rock Band disc export for RB2 goes live.

So there is a 360 title update coming out for Rock Band today [09/04/08], PS3 will follow and we'll let you know when we have an idea when it will drop. What's in it? A couple of things.

Nominal fee of $4.99 (400 Microsoft points) required for export of Rock Band 1 soundtrack to compensate music licensors for expanded use.The following Rock Band disc tracks will not be available for export into Rock Band 2: * "Paranoid" as made famous by Black Sabbath, * “Run to the Hills” as made famous by Iron Maiden, and "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. In addition, the title update will also be released simultaneously in Europe. Tokio Hotel’s “Through the Monsoon” from the European disc release of Rock Band will not be available for export into the future European release of Rock Band 2. (* Indicates a cover song, all other songs are original master recordings.) Expanded usage rights for these particular tracks were unable to be secured from the music licensors for this feature.

Comments:

Sounds good to me.  Shame no Run to the Hills though, its one of my favorite songs to play in RB1.  I'm guessing agreements with Activision had to do with some of the other missing tracks.  I know the Tokio Hotel will be in GH:WT, Ozzy signed agreements for his music in GH:WT and Enter Sandman is probably in GH: Metallica.

wow i kinda thought it was free to export rock band 1 songs to rock band 2. o well its only $5.

Ugh.... Run to the Hills is a song I really wanted.....

wtf? 3 songs that i want cant be moved?

Also question...Once I do this, can I sell my original rockband game?

So, it would only cost me $5, and a rent at the store (so ~$15 total unless I know a friend) to get all the songs from Rock Band 1 into Rock Band 2. That isn't a bad deal at all.

But if I have the RB1 disc, is it worth the $5 to play them in RB2?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

When it was announced months ago they said it would be a "small fee" because they had to pay for the music licenses again.

@disolitude

I'm wondering the same thing. If thats the case I'll probably trade mine in too.  I don't see why you would still need the disc.

@nordlead

It just depends on how tired you are of the songs in RB1.  You'll have the ability in RB2 to create custom setlists, and substitute songs in World Tour with DLC and RB1 tracks.  That's one of my complaints about RB1 is that the tour setlists get kind of repetitive since it's mostly restricted to disc songs.  This is especially true when you're trying to finish up all the venues.  More songs = more variety = more fun imo.
