Forums - Gaming - Has Sony taken a gamble by announcing release date of R2 so close to GOW2?

I think Sony focusing on being the "FPS Console" is a losing battle for them. They are basically devoting less resources to casual games to fight the Wii and gain more casual appeal. Plus they're also at a disadvantage for FPS games because of the simularities in coding between the 360 and PC. The 360 is getting games that the PS3 won't simply because of that fact giving the 360 an advantage.

 ==> well, a PS3 is 400$

it is just not a casual price ... no need to have casual title right now.

that is not case of the xobx360 that is really laking of casual title despite having a casual price (arcade 200$) ... that is why it is outsold by he PS3 (before price cut) ...

the only people this affects is people with both a ps3 and a 360. that's probably a pretty small percent of consumers and those who do have both are probably the hardcore gamers that very well might pick up both.

your describing gamers like myself, i will definitely buy both on launch day. $120 in 3 days is well worth these 2 gems

horray for my describing skills!!

I don't think it is much of a gamble. Resistance and Gears pretty much released the same time last round and both did well.

There is room in the market for more then one good game on different consoles.

Yeah... what's this thread about again?

OT:

No, different consoles.  If this were gears and Resi 1, then it'd be something, but a majority of buyers will be fans, and owners of said console.  Pushing KZ2 back was because this would have happened had both released in the same time frame, they'd cannibalize each others sales.

Of course it's a gamble, but the games did well against each other the first time, so it's a gamble with good odds.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Normally games on different platforms don't compete for sales considering they aren't selling to the same userbase unless we count into fact people sharing the same console. This is probably a minority so whatever. Only way they can hurt sales of one another is if hype of one cancels out hype of another giving it the cold shoulder to the mainstream.

Thus more than likely this is really not a gamble considering both are 2 big games. If ya need proof of what I'm saying check out GTA IV and Mario Kart Wii week.
