Forums - Microsoft - Gears 2’s Ortega: “Like Spinal Tap, right? Let’s go to 11″

You guys are silly...

He is not saying game is going to be rated 11. Don't you guys know Spinal Tap?

What he said means that they plan to crank it to 11...knowing that most things are maxed out at 10.

Its something open to translation...will the game be very loud? Will the action be turned to the max and then some?

No one is saying it will be rated 10 or 11.

Gears 1 wasn't a 10. There have only been two 10's so far in this gen: Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTA IV. IGN only gave Gears a 9.4; however, if it does turn out to be 10 times better than the first, it will still only get a 94 at Metacritic (9.4 x 10 = 94), so it will only be a 94 not a 110, and that is about what the game will deserve.

Your maths am fail.

If the original was a 9.4, then it's a metacritic 94, times that by 10 and you get 940, making it the most awesome game of all time, being 9.59 times better than GTA4

I am sure GOW2 will sell like crazy when it gets released

Just like GOW1 was a big success

kowenicki nice list, but like Janet Jackson asked, what has the 360 done lately?

Let's take a look shall we:

Ninja Gaiden II: 81 (Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3 = 88)
Too Human: 66
Tales of Vesperia: 80
Lost Odyssey: 78
Infinite Undiscovery: 72
Viva Pinata 2: 86
Unreal Tournament 3: 82 (The PS3 version = 86)

And what has the PS3 done in the same time frame?

With just a Metacritic score of only 94, Metal Gear Solid 4 is a heck of a lot better than any of those 360 games that have been released this year. However, Metal Gear Solid 4 also did a couple of things that none of those 360 games you list managed to do. It received a 10 from IGN (a feat which no other Playstation or XBOX family exclusive has ever managed to do ) and it received a 100 from Famitsu -- the greatest video game magazine in the world.  Two things that not only qualify MGS 4 to be rated not only as one of the two best games to be released this year or in this generation but also of all time.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

Are you a PS3 fanboy, still wondering if you are or not, humm, les me see now........yep sounds like it.

You guys get one game and its like the PS3 is the ultimate gaming machine lol. Resistance 1 is a big pile of crap, I've bought it, and its sitting on the shelf at home collecting dust because the game just plain sucks and you think that the second one will be a major improvement, that just lol me.

Now a game that does looks promissing is motorstorm2 for the PS3.

My favorite games for this gen:

1. Gears of War    2. MGS4    3. Killzone 2   4. Halo 3(Underated by many)      5. Mass Effect

IGN also gave GTV IV a 10... and I can bet you 90% of the people here would rather play one of those games you listed instead of GTA IV.

But I do have to say its a good use of the ps3's only AAA console exclusive in an argument...

I refuse to care what IGN reviews say anymore. They say Tales of of vesperia is th best in the series, only praise it, then give it an 8.2.

not the best example, but it sure ****ed me off.

P.S. Bioshock is higher on metacritic then MGS4 too.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

There's not much to say beyond that.

If I had told you at the end of May that since Haze had flopped so completely then MGS4 would be reviewed simliarly poorly would you have backed me up?

Your logic makes no sense, start over and try again.

Gears 2 will be huge, both with reviewers and in sales.  Get used to it.

+1

I am sure GOW2 will sell great no question about that...and Fable 2 and Halo Wars will go very good too.

X360 will surely get a nice boost in sales by these games in this fall

and

I am sure for the PS3 fanatics it gives them a pain in the stomach  by hearing that

"Gears 2 will be huge, both with reviewers and in sales. Get used to it."

As I said before, Gears 2 won't be any more of an improvement over the first as Halo 2 was over the first Halo. And do you know something? Quite a few critics maintain that Halo 2 was actually inferior to the first:  Halo:  Combat Evolved -- Metacritic score = 97.  Halo 2 Metacritic score = 95.
