Will or won't Gears of War 2 be appearing on the PC? As the web fury grows, we contacted the people behind the game to get some answers, and a nice photo gallery.

As some of you may have heard, Gears of Wars 2 - the sequel to the original balls-to-the-wall action shooter is bypassing the typical PC porting phase and now intends to go down the console route instead.

As expected, PC fans are up in arms about it and their web forum posting/ blog rapture has turned into another online hissy fit that shows no signs of abating.

The Xbox original, developed by Epic games, but published by the empire that is Microsoft (and what seems to be the seed of the problem), put players in charge of a bunch of hardened soldiers (the Delta Squad) as they roamed the planet Sera and battled a formidable locust horde.

A huge international hit that sold over 3 million copies in 10 weeks, many gamers were looking forward to the chance to put their keyboards and mice to the test with the inevitable sequel. But as we some digging, we can now comfirm that that chance of PC port is much less likely now, since Microsoft put the official kibosh on the idea.

We spoke to Scott Rhodie, spokesperson for Pulse communications on behalf of Microsoft who was straight up with us and re-iterated Microsoft’s current position: that they have “no plans to release Gears of War 2 on the PC”.

So it looks like gamers may have to swallow their pride and purchase an Xbox, if they want to get back with the Delta squad.

But if you still can't wait to spread some geek virtrol, there is always the planned film adapation to complain about instead. The film, which is to be directed by Len Wiseman (the auteur of the Underworld films, no less) could become another easy target for the gaming community to shoot their flaming geek missiles at. We live in hope.

Geek soldiers unite!

We'll see.

This will probably be a "we won't publish it on the pc so you guys will have to buy our console....whoops, three months have passed, we'll announce it for PC now" thing all over again...

Who would have thought Sony's "Only on PS3" moniker in US would have got MS so rattled...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Meh, I'm still expecting a port.

If that doesn't happen, I can simply watch a friend who owns a 360 play it (or maybe even play co-op).

So much for Microsoft's "PC Alliance"

I wish an operating system from a company that isn't heavily invested in home consoles would suddenly appear. Google? Apple? Anyone?

Microsoft is fighting itself, dragging users away from PC's to its console, hurting sales of Vista but picking up sales of 360.  It's a messy plan.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

I totally agree with you this will most likely make it to pc,s its a matter of time, just like the first one did
This is just a way so that gamers who own both a pc a 360 chose the 360 version over the pc one, giving Microsoft both a bigger profit (game is more expensive on the 360 then the pc )and better sales for the 360
Its gonna be the same story about a year later it will get a pc version imo games for windows needs all the help it can get right now and skipping GOW2 would be a very bad move from microsoft

They will say it wont appear elsewhere to cash in and then as the 360 version sales slow down they will announce it for PC.

That's where the safe money bet seems to lie anyway. I'll be surprised if Gears 2 never makes it to PC.

I'll still be a bit miffed personally, but it doesn't matter tremendously since I'm only buying the game once either way.

At the very least, I'll be able to have some Gears 2 secrets unlocked since I played the original on the 360.

Is this really a big deal? It's a console franchise. Why would all the Glass Wristed One actually be upset about something that wasn't actually "theirs" to begin with?

Will you teach me to football?
