A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.

...

Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.

I just read this article too on yahoo news.

that's huge!  but I'm sure it'll go down in next few weeks.

If it goes up, then McCain will be looking good.

There is a strong partisan gap when it comes to perceptions of Palin. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/palin_power_fresh_face_now_more_popular_than_obama_mccain">Republicans give her favorable reviews along with 33% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

She earns positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women.

Only 52% of women?  I thought more women would like her.

She's "Pro Life".

I'm surprised that percentage of women like her.

It does seem the random attacks on her after her announcement are backfiring a bit though.

I mean... some women who are Pro choice will vote for Pro-life candidates...

but a lot consider women who are Pro-Life to be outright traitors.  They can understand reasons why men might want to be Pro-Life.... like... for example a guy has no choice on whether his baby gets aborted or not.

but women that's just... unforgivable to a lot of people.

I saw an interesting factoid on television the other day that I have been unable to verify yet ... The claim was that Men are generally (much) more "Pro-Choice" than women are, and people become much more "Pro-Life" as they get older. This (really) wouldn't surprise me because the strongest pro-life supporters I have met have all been women, and people who have had children (or at least have neices/nephews) have probably gained a different perspective on life.

Huh go figure.  Well to be fair... older people are less likely to need abortions then younger people.

As for the men vs women thing... i've got no clue on that one.

I don't know (for sure) why women and men would be so different, but I suspect that it has to do a lot with women wanting children (or grandchildren) much more and at a much higher rate than men do.

Was the factoid supposedly referring to residents of the United States of America or Canada?

Sarah Palin appeals to Conservatives more then John McCain, and that's what McCain did need because Christian Right and some other Republican groups were never in favour of him, Palin does have their support, plus other pluses, she is young she will appeal to women.

And she is a bit of a MILF so , she has my support.

I haven't found a source on age disparity but:

more people tuned into see McCain's speech than Obama's.
that's huge. I don't think anybody predicted this.

It's Palin that made this possible.

I just thought this was interesting, its a blog entry by a band I like that is in fact from Wasilla Alaska regarding Palin.

Sarah Palin trying to ban books from the library sounds like good fuel against her in a debate.
